Psychology Name College Date Question one Seasonal affective disorder is a kind of disorder that affects people at certain times of the years and not others. Most of the time, this is a disorder that takes place in summer and winter. Most of the time this is characterized by mood swings, craving for certain foods especially carbohydrates, which may cause the person to gain weight and lack of the ability or the motivation to wake up at the time that they are supposed to (Labaree, 2006). One of the ways in which this can be rectified with the use of evidence based treatments. This can be done through what is referred to as light therapy. This is due to the fact that there is a lot of influence in the system of a person through the light. When natural light comes to play when the sun shines, the body produces a hormone that is known as melatonin which encourages the body to wake up. That is why most people wake up in the morning because it is at this time that the natural light is at its best and brightest. The problem with people who suffer from this disorder is that there is lack of proper communication in their bodies. The light that is supposed to help in the activation of the hormone is in less supply. Light therapy therefore is the introduction of artificial light that is supposed to be added to the natural light. Therefore the body is able to take note of the fact that there is light and the person will have the motivation to awake and to function like all human beings are expected to function during the day. The second type of evidence based treatments is the use of antidepressants. The main use of antidepressants in this ad many other cases are to help in the elimination of certain types of emotions that are deemed undesirable. Therefore in this case, if the person is noticing bad moods or constant mood swings the antidepressants come in handy to help them in stabilizing their systems. Question two Life history method of qualitative research refers to a method where most of the information that is used is obtained from data that was either collected in the past or from things that took place in the past. One of the main advantages of using this mode of research is that most of the details are already existent. The only problem is that some of them may have not been already documented. This means that the selection of participants in this case is often more thorough and extreme. The reason for this is that there are already certain specifications that have been made regarding the kind of people from whom information is expected to come from. As a result, there is a lot of time that is saved that would have otherwise been used in gathering information from wrong sources and trying to figure out which ones of them are legitimate and which ones are not. Another advantage of using this type of qualitative research is that the data is easier to understand. The general knowledge that qualitative research is often geared towards the understanding of a certain phenomenon or a human behavior. In order for the right conclusions to be made in this regard, it is often essential to take note of any certain patterns that have formed in order to find the similar or connecting characteristics. Therefore most of the time, it requires that qualitative research takes a long time for all of these patterns to be made. In the case of historical analysis, this may not be necessary. The reason is that most of the things that have been gathered have taken place over time and all that is needed is the information that can be sued to back up the fact that they have taken place, thus helping in saving time. The third advantage is that this kind of research method is that it provides a chance for better understanding of the behavior of human beings, even for those that may not have any direct connection with the research at hand. The reason for this is that most of the time when this kind of research is carried out, there are certain crucial life events that are either being investigated or have a great significance on the phenomenon that is being investigated. As such, this research is their only chance to get close to the information that may better their understanding of the events that took place. The final advantage of this kind of research is in relation to formulation of conclusions and interpretations. This kind of research has all the necessary data. As a result, there are very few details that will need to be added to that which already exists. This cannot be compared to the other types of researches, because there is often a lot of room that is left for carrying out of this research in the future, since most of the researchers are often aware of the fact that not all details have been gathered. The beautiful thing about history is that it cannot be changed. Those details about it that were true a thousand years ago will continue to be true in the next one thousand years. Therefore, there is not a chance that after a while people will need to carry out fresh research, because the validity of this information is not likely to change for any reason. This comes to the conclusion that this kind of research compared to the others is the most accurate. Question four The attachment of children to their parents depend on a number of factors some of them social, and some of them depending on the age of the child. For example, the author states that children who are two years and less are more likely to be attached to their mother than they will to their father, due to the fact that by default they spend a lot of time with them. It is the mother at this stage that will influence the way that the child is able to communicate or interact and relate with other people. When the child begins to grow older, his ability to connect with his parents is greatly influenced by other outside factors such as the kind of interaction that he has with his peers in school. It is for this reason that there are children who get to a certain age and become detached from the parent because at school their peers have made them believe that they should be independent of their parents. Question five Cognition can be defined as those processes that take place naturally in human beings and are also unique in each of these human beings. The article argues that the human brain is interconnected in a way that emotion and cognition and interconnected with each other. In this sense, the article is of the opinion that in fact emotion is often brought about by a series of cognitive processes. It is argued by scholars that emotion and cognition are the same kind since they are generated from the same brain. Another definition of cognition that is more relevant to this case is that which states it as the ability or the process through which one acquires knowledge and understanding. This often takes place through use of sense, thoughts and experience. Once a person is able to have these various cognitive processes of certain situations, it leads to him having another setoff values such as perception. Perception refers to the ability of this person to form an opinion regarding the things that he has become cognizant of. He is also able to develop institution, and notion. Intuition in this case refers to that six sense that humans often have regarding a particular occurrence. The other result of cognition, using this same line of though is emotion. Emotion refers to the ability of a person to have a certain feeling regarding something, someone, or a situation. It is closely related to perceptions, but has deeper use of the human sense. One a person possesses cognition, he develops the ability to think about various things, to analyze the and top have certain types of relationships with them, thus leading to them having varied emotions reading these things. The reason it is stated that emotion and cognition go together is the fact that one of them is able to influence the other. At times they are capable of taking place at the same time but independently and are also closely related to one another. This is to say that if a person does not have cognitive abilities, it is unlikely that he will be able to have certain emotions towards various situations. This is because the eliciting of emotion can only be successful when one is able to recognize that which he is supposed to have emotions about. He should also have the capacity to analyze the situation in various angles before he is able to decide how he feels about the particular issue. However, if he does not have the cognitive ability. He cannot identify any situation and will also lack the ability to connect it to anything, thus mention will not be available. However, there are those who believe that cognition and emotion are capable of taking place independent of each other. For example, one of the given definitions of emotion is the ability to develop a feeling about a certain phenomenon. The feeling is often developed due to experience and the relationship that one has with the said phenomenon. With this definition, it would be easy to say that emotion also has its own processes that make it able to happen completely without depending on cognition. The general factor in these two words however, is what makes them be studied together more often than not. This is to say that there are certain aspects of cognition that are also present in emotion.
