Research: Updating Festinger and CarlsmithStudies from Festinger and Carlsmith would not be the same if they were repeated today. In both studies, students responded in aligning with their private opinion regardless of the reward they were offered (Festinger & Carlsmith, 1957). Subjects who were offered twenty dollars thought that the experimenter intended to deceive them in order to align with his or her declaration unlike their counterparts who received one dollar. With the rise in societal demand that requires money, I believe that the students would behave differently in that they would respond in consonance as the reward increases.

This would be perpetuated by the influence of peer pressure that has augmented into substantial levels in the modern world thereby manipulating the opinion held by an individual. If the studies were conducted today, people would have behaved differently because people have become rational on matters affecting them, and they are more likely to accept monetary rewards to change their opinion on the subject matter.Ethics plays an important role in research studies and this case, in order to be consistent with the modern world; the study should eliminate the monetary reward, as people will tend to be bias, which will affect the findings of the research.

The researchers should endeavor to ensure that they follow rules set by the American Psychological Association and eliminate any instances of biases by ensuring that they adhere to ethical standards required for conducting research (Smith, 2003). This observation ascertains that the findings are accurate and not influenced by any external factors especially that emanate from anti-social behaviors created under peer influence.ReferencesFestinger, L & Carlsmith, J, M.
