Final Summative Paper Final Summative Paper Adolescent’s mental health problems are causing the general public many problems. They rob murder or even hijack people to get money for buying drugs. The government is also spending money in providing healthcare services to the same addicts. This project, therefore, emphasizes the need for correcting the drug addiction problem among the youth. 1. Activity The team will offer residential treatment for adolescent’s suffering from drug abuse/chemical dependency. The primary aim of the group will be to provide healing and treatment for this adolescent with mental health disorders. The activity is necessary because the problem causes varied problems to the society. These youth’s, for example, perform poorly in class, are violent, and some of them commit suicide. Some of the adolescents are also suffering from several mental health disorders. The project will, therefore, be life changing to all of the already and yet to drug addicts. To add on this mental problem is not the only thing these youths are suffering from. They also risk being infected and contracting diseases like diabetes and TB (NIH, 2014). The annual national survey on drug use and health (NSDUH) recently revealed that illicit drug use has been increasing for the past two years. It stated that in 2012, about 24 million Americans aged between 12 and above had abused a drug the previous month. Sadly, the increase was mainly due to marijuana. The study further showed that drug abuse cost the American economy billions of dollars due to healthcare costs increased criminal activities and reduced productivity. The cost of the illegal drugs was a whopping $524 billion each year. This necessitated the need for the project. 2. Job Description Job title: mental health care provider Job descriptions Identify and help adolescents involved in drug abuse Assess the effectiveness of the project Report to the project head The team will ensure that the members are from diverse fields by recruiting competent and able personalities. The members will also be trained to ensure that they are capable of handling the situation on the ground. 3. What Leadership Style The best leadership style will be an affiliate. It places its interest in the importance of acting together as a team. The group is thus connected together. As a result, there will be harmony in the group and members will work efficiently. However, it cannot be used on itself. This is because it sometimes tolerates mediocrity. The Blake-Mouton Managerial Grid will also be used. It is a person oriented style, which is based on group performance. It encourages the group leader to organize and support the group members. The leader then defines each of the individual’s responsibility and monitor their job (McManus, 2006). This suits well with the project because the project requires that the emphasis be put on the people and the outcome. The manager should, therefore, strive to achieve success in both areas (Manktelow & Carlson., 2014). 4. How will you introduce yourself to your new team? What kinds of team building activities might you do? I will introduce myself as the leader of the team and give them the directions from my heart i.e. from how I feel. A team building will be conducted to help the members shift habits. This will be especially important after a tedious job. It is common for members to feel that their daily activities determine how they spend their time. This is not usually the case as we are the sole determinants of how we use our time (Dessler, 2000). The teamwork building activity will consist of two parts The first part is for the group members to discuss among themselves how they manage their time to have the highest impact. Each member must then choose to change any of their aspects of their management. This should be a small change that will bring about a significant change in result of the project. It can be when to view their personal profiles in social sites. Each member then selects another member to check on their progress (Askegren, 2005). 5. How will you communicate with your team (e.g., communication style, Mode of communication, etc.)? There will be many modes of communication. This will be face to face, internet, phone calls and social sites. They are grouped into two; push and pull. In the push, the source of the information pushes the information to the receiver like in face to face contact while in pull the recipient has to remove the information such as from internet. There will also be a group spokesperson who will be in charge of conveying all the messages to the members and victims. Pull mechanisms of communication will be preferred because of their ability to provide reference in the future. However, push mechanisms are also allowed especially in matters of urgency and when no feedback is required. The group shall further have a website for posting of schedules and other vital information that cannot be conveyed through the other mechanisms (Nielsen, 2014). 6. What methods will you do to influence your teams work and project outcome? To enhance teamwork and project outcome, the team will start its project slowly and learn from the experience. It will narrow its scope and evaluate the need for the outcome measurement process. The team will also comprise of well-rounded individuals with different skills and competent leader. These enable the team works efficiently and to the goals. Members will also be encouraged to contribute during evaluation (Giuliani & Kurson 2007). 7. How decisions pertaining the project will be made? Decisions in the project will be made after a thorough and rigorous consultation in which each solution will be stated, and the pros and cons of each decision listed. The Impact the decision will have on the team is then analyzed. The best decisions shall then be listed for the members to debate on. Group decisions will be made through consensus where group members shall discuss any issue before arriving at a standard solution (Sadler, 2005). 8. How will you ensure that your team as a whole and individual team Do Members behave in an ethical manner? To ensure ethics is maintained in the group members will be encouraged to behave appropriately. Poor manners will also be stamped out. These will be through: The team will come up with a list of the accepted conduct. The list will be precise and to the point so that members know what is expected of them. This might include the code of dressing, communication style and language, telephone manners and general etiquette. As a leader, I will be a good role model to reinforce the code of conduct (Manktelow & Carlson., 2014). The agenda of each meeting will include conducts perceived to be bad within the group. Manners category will also be a compulsory item in the performance review process. Members will be appreciated when they perform exemplary such as being courteous. Bad behavior will be stamped out through the following; Developing a just correction procedure for each member. Encouraging the members to solve their misunderstanding by themselves, but where it is impossible, they should consult the group leader (Giuliani & Kurson 2007).
