?Entrepreneurial Psychology Manager’s job Working as a manger is a challenging task. This is because of the variety of roles that one is supposed to play. I have interacted with several managers in my career life. One of them was my internship manager. This manager performed somehow well in his responsibilities. However, he failed in some of the roles of a manager identified by Henry Mintzberg. The roles of manager as described by Mintzberg could be categorized into three categories. These categories include Interpersonal roles, information roles, and decision roles (Lussier & Achua 2009). Each of these categories is performed differently though they are somehow related and interconnected. The manager identified in this paper performed better in some categories compared to others. This was mainly because of his personal weaknesses as well as his personal strength. According to Koontz & Weihrich (2006), managerial roles found in the interpersonal roles category are the figurehead role, the leader role, and the liaison role. My internship manager performed very well in the leader role. This is because he used to guide us in all the activities he assigned us. However, he did not perform well in the figurehead. This is because he rarely performed ceremonial and social duties in the organization. In most cases, he used to assign this role to his seniors in the organization. His liaison role also was underperformed. As a manager, he rarely interacted with individuals from other organizations. He had left this role to the marketing staffs and the public relations team. Therefore, in terms of the interpersonal roles, the manager only performed well in the leadership role. Information roles of manager’s roles category include recipient role, disseminator role, and the spokesperson role (Elsy & Thattil 2009). My internship manager performed differently in each of the roles in this category. He performed very well in the recipient role. This is because he always made sure that he had the required information from his seniors and subordinates on the progress and the difficulties experienced in a given task. The manager performed well in the disseminator role. He passed all the information he had about work to us in good time as wells as provide a work report to his seniors on daily basis. However, he did not perform well in the spokesperson role since he rarely participated in company presentation to the public. This is because he always considered that this was the responsibility of the marketing department. Decision roles of a manager are divided into entrepreneur role, disturbance handler role, resource allocator role, and negotiator role (Kumar & Sharma 2000). This is the category where my internship manager failed in most of the roles. The manager did not perform well in entrepreneurship and negotiation roles since he did not own to them. However, he performed well in disturbance handling especially when it emanated from his junior staffs. Moreover, he performed in a recommendable manner in resource allocation. He used to ensure that we receive the necessary resources in time so that work would not be delayed. Envisioning vision Successful leaders have bold visions for the organization they lead. Managers are business leaders; therefore, they should have bold vision for the company they lead. Visions, however, are not limited to organizations but also to individual lives. In this case, individuals should have bold visions for their individual lives. To set a vision it is necessary to understand your potential. Several ways exist that I would use to assess my potential. One of the ways is using my achievements in different aspects of life. Another way is personal research and evaluation. In addition, I would be using the positive critiques and recommendations to assess my potential. These three ways would help me understand my potential thus enabling me to improve both my life and my career. After assessing my potential, I would set a bold vision for my life. This vision should be in line with my potential so that it can become achievable. In setting the personal vision, I would consider several other factors. One of the factors is that it should have a time bound. This time bound would indicate the time that I intend to use to achieve the vision. Moreover, it should be measurable with achievement indicators. My personal vision would also encompass both short-term and long-term goals I intend to achieve in life. In addition, after assessing my potential, I would set my career vision. This vision would define the maximum career growth that I plan to achieve. It would also involve the strategy that I intend to use in order to achieve this career growth as well as the various short-term and long-term career goals that I aim to achieve. These two visions would play a significant role in defining my course of action in my efforts to develop my career and myself. Moral Challenges I have faced moral situations several times throughout my career. One of them was when I was required to inform my seniors about my team. The other one was when the organization employees had gone on strike demanding for improved working conditions and pay rise. These two situations forced me to make critical decisions that affected different people in the organization. The decision I made in the first situation affected my junior employees, my supervisors and managers while the decision I made on the second situation affected every employee in the organization. In the first situation, I believe I did not make the right decision since I decided to give incredible information on what was going on in my team. The decisions I made affected my senior managers negatively since they relied on the information provided to make decisions. When making my decision, I did not consult my team members and my seniors. I feared that my seniors could victimize my team member based on the knowledge I could have offered them. This affected my team members negatively since the working conditions continued to worsen in the team. As one of the team members, was not spared by the consequences of the decision I made. If faced with such a situation, I would choose to say every truth about my team despite the cost. The results based on the second decision shows that I made the right decision. Only the employer was affected negatively. In this situation, I decided to join other workers in demanding for a pay rise and improved working conditions. I did not consider the point of view of the employer, since we had tried it several times but in vain. The decision I made in this situation promoted solidarity among employees. If faced with a similar situation, I would make the same decisions. This is because although they might be short-term negative effects, they have positive long-term effects.
