Teacher Reflection The paper tackled the job of the counselor as he or she deals with the child and the parent. Reflecting on it, the job of the counselor is not just to test the child’s development and aptitude. It is way more than that. It is to guide and assist the child that he or may discover his or her full potentialities and become a productive member of society. This is even more important especially when a child has a disability because of the special assistance and resources needed to assist the child.

The paper is enlightening in terms of the help and resources needed to help a child with disability. Angela Knolls who is a counselor at Sierra Vista Junior High, tells of an individualized accommodation depending on a specific need. This is important to make the help responsive to the child’s needs. The idea of Kristen Hinze about the role and involvement of parents in the decision making of their child’s IEP is also invaluable because they are the most important component of the help.

When one would really think about it, the paper is really about the importance of special care that should be administered to a child with special needs. The task involved in assisting a special child goes beyond educating him or her but also adjusting a specific program to make it responsive to the needs of a child with the support of the people around him or her particularly parents. It is a challenging work but a necessity if we are to build a more compassionate society that cares for its less than able members.
