Role at the Service Site My role at the service site of Christian Services is to assist the calling-center hanger with the critical analysis of the questionnaires in terms of its data efficiency. I consider my service role as quite significant because it helps the organization in identifying the actual requirements of the community and thereby serving their needs with greater efficiency. Initial Expectations and Alterations in the Viewpoints My initial expectations from the role in service site were highly influenced by the example of various social leaders. When joining Christian Services, I also expected a certain degree of spiritual satisfaction when serving the community with the sole motive of social welfare, apart from economic value obtainment. I also expected the job to be less challenging than the other tasks related with community welfare through non-profit firms. However, once I started working in Christian Services, I realized that even though the task comprised unambiguous responsibilities and a determined work process, the role presented significant challenges in terms of a varied range of the data obtained through the questionnaires used. I also realized the criticality of my service role when I understood that analyzing the data efficiency is quite vital in identifying and thereby satisfying the community needs with greater supremacy. I was also surprised to notice that community needs even in today’s modern and updated social context are not met sufficiently where a major proportion of the common public suffer from limited resources and opportunities for growth. Prior to my joining in the group, I also presumed that owing to governmental policies and the increased accessibility to resources, communities today have become quite competent to attain the demanded growth. However, after joining the group, I found that non-profit concerns and social groups, such as Christian Services play a significant role working as intermediaries to serve with adequate resources to the community. Correspondingly, my expectations have also altered by a significant extent after identifying the fact which has positively influenced the way I valued my service role in the group. One person who played a vital role in redefining my perceptions and expectations from the service role was my senior and also my mentor in the initial phase of my experiences in Christian Services. He not only made me realize the criticality of my job role but also conveyed me the actual aim and objective of the community. It has been through the influence of this information that my expectations have altered in relation to the service site being concerned towards a greater degree of efficiency in relation to the service deliverance of community welfare rather than focusing upon personal benefits. Benefits of Christian Work One of the major benefits of Christian work, which I have been able to identify during my course of service, is the opportunity that is offered by the group to its volunteers in offering the community with valuable assistance to grow. To be specific, the group offers with ample scope to serve the community with greater participation in identifying the growth needs and the obstacles witnessed by the common public. Hence, by being associated with the group, I realized myself to be quite benefitted with greater opportunity to serve the community. Furthermore, the Christian work that I am responsible for also helped me significantly in understanding the modern day growth needs of a community. Additionally, I consider my service role not only to be an opportunity for me to serve my society, but also a reason of self-pride being able to contribute to humanity. I also respect my service role in the group as through my association with Christian Services I am able to attain the spiritual happiness to serve others. Surprises in the Christian Service Involvement One of the most surprising facts that I was able to identify in my course of service was related with the tasks and the responsibilities of non-profit concerns. I used to perceive that the tasks performed by similar groups must be well-defined, less challenging and spontaneous in nature. However, I was later surprised to know that the tasks were indeed too complex and challenging to be performed with high level of efficiency owing to the higher degree of variances in the job requirements and specifications. Even though a degree of spontaneous leadership is required to effectively manage the responsibilities offered by Christian Services, there are specific guidelines which need to be adhered strictly and thereby it influences the service roles to be more complex and challenging to be performed. Realizing these aspects, I believe I was able to assist the group with the identification of authenticated data through questionnaires which further helped to create a positive influence on the effectiveness of the community services offered. Change in the Understanding of the Community Prior to my association with Christian Services, I was unaware of such challenges and the growth requirements of modern day communities. I also realized that similar communities or groups like Christian Services perform tasks which are more challenging but simultaneously quite rewarding. Participating in this project, I was able to realize that volunteers need to step out of their comfort zone and possess significant interest in community welfare to prove efficient in relation to this particular service role. Continuing Involvement Considering the pleasant experiences of my association with the group, I wish to continue participating in such projects in the long term. In doing so, I wish to avail educational courses which will groom my skills and understanding regarding the community on the whole. I believe that learning about different cultures and lifestyles in a modern day community will also make me more competent in my service roles by a greater extent. Personally, I intend to offer greater participation and involvement in the project in order to obtain more experiences in the field. This experience is quite likely to assist me in my future endeavors with similar groups (Hailey, “NGO Leadership Development: A Review of the Literature”). Raise Awareness about the Group In order to raise awareness about the group, I intend to take the assistance of other members of the group and organize frequent campaigns to convey the sole intentions, values and objectives of Christian Services. Furthermore, media channels can be taken into consideration for the purpose of communicating regarding the group. I also intend to take the assistance of technology in raising awareness about the group by utilizing social networks and blogs. Most Difficult or Satisfying Aspects of My Work To be specific, the most difficult aspect that I was able to observe in relation to my work is the interpretation of the varied range of data obtained and correspondingly, examining the questionnaire designed for the purpose of the project. Simultaneously, the most satisfying aspect in relation to my service role is the ability and the opportunity to serve the interests of the community. Successes of the Project One of the most persuasive facts that I was able to identify when performing in the group was the welcoming nature of the members which prohibits discrimination of the ‘outsiders’ and the ‘insiders’ to the project. Being a new comer to the group, I did not identify any discrimination between the members who were associated with the group for a longer period of time and those who had recently joined the community. The morale that I was able to learn from being associated with the group is that interpersonal communication and respect is quite necessary to render ultimate contribution to the project. Reflecting Values through Community Work One of the strongest motivations for me to remain associated with the group is the opportunity that I could avail by participating in the project. I was able to serve the community needs partially which I believe to be my small contribution to the overall growth of the society. I also value my service role as a contribution towards humanity rather than mere community work. Uncomfortable Feelings The only uncomfortable feeling that I was able to identify when participating in the group was the recognition of certain disturbing facts regarding the community growth requirements. Previously, I used to assume that owing to technological growth and greater availability of socio-economic resources, community needs are being satisfied by larger extent. However, I realized that community needs are yet not being satisfied adequately, mostly due to the lacuna in governmental policy implementation procedures. Because of my service-learning, I am today able to identify the community needs from a more in-depth knowledge and thereby contribute towards the growth of society at large. The Prayer Oh Lord Jesus, I am grateful to you for rewarding me the opportunity to serve your most mesmerizing creation, Humanity. May I restrict myself from hurting others and never dishearten you when treating others. Please keep your blessings with me so that I can preserve and groom the qualities in my character when serving the nature. Amen.
