? Number] Q1 Introduction The treating person fairly lies at the heart of Social Justice, in the context of effective workgroups. The scope has been narrowed down to the industry only to observe the economic facets of the various industries. In the context of the topic; money for nothing; behind the pop music, the social justice behind that industry has been presented. According to the bird eye view of the music industry, and from the given video, the only art that is associated with the music is the art of selling the music and no genuine art is behind the industry. The concept of social justice and the subsequent distributive and the phenomenal or procedural justice has been critically presented and analyzed. For the purpose of critical thinking and objective judgment, the latest and fresh ‘conspiracy theory’ view has been avoided as rhymed in the given video and the credits are to be given for the valuable efforts of the music industry. Critical Comparison between Distributive and Procedural Justice for the industry Distributive justice is the concept of giving the adequate rewards for the efforts with respect to the performance level. This approach is the result oriented approach rather than the process oriented approach (Cropanzano: 144). The result oriented approach focuses on the end results and of the view of the famous saying, all is well that ends well’ whereas the procedural justice gives the credit to the efforts and not the end results. A person with good effort is rewarded in the procedural justice (Cropanzano 149) and in the distributive justice; the person is rewarded for the totality, or the final results. For the final results, usually, the way a person chooses to complete a task is not observed but the reward is proportional to the outcomes (Cropanzano 146). The free and undisciplined way is not the topic here, but the disciplined approach is preferable in the industry. The result oriented approach, in a disciplined way to complete any task, is a good way because it determines the effort by any individual to complete any task. And it’s about how smartly a person completes a task. This approach is innovative and dramatically improves the results but have inherent risk as compared to the bureaucratic approach of working. The bureaucratic approach is stuck in the formal procedures and following disciplines, and the innovation and productivity may be lost during this overwhelming process. Bureaucratic approach is good for the traditional work and where the quantity of work is to be measured in the average way. Sustainability with the assurance of the completed task through institutionalizing any production unit is the main essence of bureaucracy. The rewards are to be given justly for what they do for achieving results is the working criteria of the Distributive justice and a person with good results can get good rewards, and importantly feels more motivated, as their effort for the work, is recognized and appreciated in this process. Those people who are over rewarded for their work will have no issues in this case, but the people with under rewarding will be de motivated as they will be treated according to the fixed criteria and so their is no adjustment for their abilities and efforts and this is why social justice is a good approach in the industry. In the Context of Procedural Justice Procedural justice, however, depends on the process and the loyalty and the commitment for the broken down task structures is counted. Outcome are the results from the series of events (Cropanzano: 149) An individual, who is working in any industry, is under consideration. And if the given individual does not end results according to the expectations, will be given a good reward if he has committed some good efforts. The good efforts will justify the reward rather than the end results. Procedural justice also includes the human relation model, which relies on the social fair treatment of the people. Fair needs to be disambiguated here, fair means ‘just and equitable’. The procedural justice considers the motivation of people through a human relations and the corporate culture where working is more comfortable and a source of satisfaction. The specific motivation calculus is considered, and the needs can vary from person to person. Money for nothing: behind the pop music industry. Pop music industry is the music industry where a few companies has monopolized the industry and selling the products to the consumers with the view to their accords. The consumer is no more king in the given industry as the consumer is considered king the marketing era of managing companies. The criterion for the work is marketing, rather than the real art and this overly marketed result is getting reward in billions. With the perspective of the Distributive justice, the monopoly behind the music industry is the result of the previous efforts of these brands and these brands are sustaining by presenting their selected stars on the media. Distributive justice and procedural justices in the music industry are both being applied for the critical conclusion here. Procedural justice and the human relation model is also important as the procedural justice will tell us how the music industry is working, and being rewarded step by step for the work. Procedural justice is not suitable for the new stars/artists as they will not be rewarded for the day to day efforts, and the procedural justice have a partial influence of self interest (Cropanzano 156), but this is the end results and the worth of the brand that sells the given artwork and since the reward is achieved through this combine effort. Distributive justice gives the clearer picture here as the artist and the artwork/ which may be a music album or a single song will get good appreciation as an end result of the ‘experienced’ oriented effort of these big brands, and hence through the establishment of these, a reward in millions can be accumulated. The mixed approach of distributive and procedural justice gives the varying permutations of effectiveness and ineffectiveness ( Cropanzano: 153), as an artist with good determination and getting the attention of any one of the big brand can get end result, and being rewarded for their work, a distributive justice is good for the entrepreneurial effort of these artists, a fair procedure treats everyone consistently (Cropanzano: 156) where they can get rewards for the work and they will have to bear the aggregate risk for their work. The self realization from the individual worker will give him satisfaction and from the passive view point, the same realization from the employer will get him get a good reward. Q2: The commercialization of colleges in the present time has turned them into corporations and now the colleges are not just colleges, they are the sites of a company. The technology changes, this change with time increases the risk (Handel: 437) and these are termed as normal accidents. The commercialized system of colleges has been realized on the basis of three Ms as mentioned in the video, Money, management and marketing. These three Ms are the basic criteria for any investment in the present age. The colleges provide knowledge and the knowledge is economy in the present time. The professionals like doctors, engineers, public officers and came definitely from colleges are continually coming. These are the white collar professions that have been capitalized by these education management companies. The education management companies are utilizing the ultimate demand of professional and technical knowledge and using their knowledge about the ‘need of time’, they are making several courses for their students. This phenomenon has not been established as an accident (Handel: 437).Ironically, the accidents are special events, but the accidents above mentioned are not special so the can not be termed as accidents. Instead they have been given the name of ‘normal accidents’. A long entrepreneurial homework, the ever growing need of education, change in communication technology and a corporate sense has led to the emergence of these institutions. In contrast to the community college, the management of these For-Profit colleges hires professors for the short term basis and hence reduces their cost, which increases their profit and provides a pure view of a publicly listed company listed on the stock exchange. The business is education. The brilliant attention that this phenomenon has offered to the students is the physical absence at the educational campuses, and they can get the education adequately through logging in and telecommuting. These universities are not just the online portals but the traditional classes are also held in these universities with the co curricular activities. This is all done in a modern, for- Profit College, where it is scientifically managed for the operations and accounted for their financial performance as well. The conflict from these organizations and their functions comes from quality of degrees in search of high profit, and the brand marketing. The students are found complaining for the aggressive and pressurized marketing tactics and the students are persuaded to just enroll, tempting them from their dreams of a well living style. This is the critical point in the decisions of students and they take admissions which may come from falsifying and manipulating the required degree. The conflicts of interest between the teachers and the university are also their , as for the purpose of lowering their costs, they are hired for shorter periods, as mentioned, which is both sometimes unfavorable for the students and the professor themselves. The organizational structure of these colleges involves a strong sales and marketing strategy, and it is not just giving an adequate offer to the potential consumer, which is student here, but the non potential students are also appreciated to take admissions, which increases the profits and on the other hand students get the useless qualification which has no practical relevance. These qualifications may not be recognized from the educational bodies like APA, engineering councils, etc. and in this case the industry does not accept the qualification because the qualifications are not as per the standard rules. The following of the standards in association is against the concept of learning and the monopoly of the traditional institutions is made, but for the authentication purposes the traditional education is more referred in the industry and mostly preferred by the HR departments of the companies. The reason for the accreditation is the following of set procedures that makes the students result oriented and have quality in the education, and the fast track education can not provide the learning, which is inherently required the traditional and slow but gradual learning process. The profiteering of College Inc. is depended on the sales force which is instructed to target a certain set of students to be enrolled, and if they don’t reach, the sales force is appraised by the trainers and advised to get the training again. This pressure on the sales force let them enroll the students by hook or crook for the sake of their prospective future which results in wrong qualifications. The students in these colleges have to pay more than the traditional colleges and pays more than fives times than traditional college. These are the students who have left their academics and want to turn to the academics again. With the flexibility of this education and by going online, these students have the ease of getting education, and re-catching the opportunity that they have missed long ago. The regulating authorities have criticized and taken action against these open universities for their mis-commitments and the wrong doings. There are the students who rely on these organization like College Inc. to get their education, and to finance their education, they need to take the loans, which they repay most of the time in their lives. These colleges have to suffer from the lawsuits resulting from these cases and the big penalties have been paid by these colleges on the account of these cases. These mishaps are caused by the communication gaps between the students and the expectancy from the circumstances, so it’s the responsibility of these managers to bridge this gap (Handel: 445). Q3 Introduction To enter into a practical world, one must excel the education with the practical knowledge. When the practical knowledge is not present, I will not be in a negotiating position with any organization, so the internship is the best option to join any firm through the links. The negotiation is never the aim of any designation, and it seems selfish and lust oriented. So the main aim in the starting of career is to take the authorities into confidence with good results. Internship At the early levels, the careers are not too complex, the tasks assigned are simple, as the responsibility would lye on my manager, so the easy task would be assigned, so by the commitment to these easy tasks, the completion of these tasks would be the main target of my job. This successful completion of tenure could place me at a launching position in my career. Junior executive Junior executive will be the first role I will have in my career. From the completed training, I will be able to work on the behalf of my managers, and hence due to the track record of my training, my managers will be delegating me. The managers regards their authority sacred (Handel 152) and I will respect their authority by completing the delegated task professionally. When I will be delegated, this will be the show of trust by the line managers on me. The organizations have three level managers, the operation managers, tactical manager, and the strategic managers. A supervisor is the example of the operational manager, a unit manager/production manager/sales manager/Hr manager are the examples of the managers at the tactical level, whereas the strategic level management includes the executive directors, non executive directors and the CEOs. Having completed my education and training in my organization I will be promoted to the post of supervisor, and this is not a quick process. It may take time/ experience. Conflict management The conflict should be resolved between the personal and organizational needs. Management by objective and the management by recognizing the profit centers have potential conflict of interest. So the strong ability of conflict management would be required. This conflict management will lead to the organizational effective profits and will not just increase the performance at the cost of other department. This would be appreciated by the upper management and my seniors will realize this to management. The profits will be shown precisely and through good work, I can improve my appraisal reports. For the personality clash or the personality conflict, treating people fairly is the very fine principle, and can be applied at any geographic location. The dissatisfaction can also increase the employees’ turnover (Handel 150). The personal conflict management would eliminate the factor of jealousy and will turn the jealousy into a competitive environment, which any challenging individual should not be afraid of. More challenges mean the more opportunities. Professionalism Professionalism includes both ethics and work commitment. Professionals is not about working 18 hours and setting a workaholic image. Usually employees with the workaholic image are considered good, because they are deemed selfless for the company as they are working more than the required hours for which they are paid, so their managers are inspired by this and often considers them for the promotion, I will not chose this way, because the workaholics loses their quality of performance with the passage of time, according to the law of diminishing returns. The distributive judgment approach will ensure the end results of me, whereas the alternative of this, a procedural approach of working ethically and fairly will work for me in the promotion. Leadership quality Leadership quality is the ability to understand. I will adopt a model of leading by example. I will work proactively; working proactively is actually taking the initiative. A manager should not look like a monster; however he/she should have a friendly way of dealing. The more democratic way of getting jobs done will be taken under my leadership. Leadership requires the needs of the subordinates and the needs of the seniors, which can be effectively fulfilled under the company’s code of professional and ethical conducts. Rules can also be enforced irregularly as a way of maintaining positive workplace relations (Handel 145) I would adopt a principle based approach rather than the rules based approach. The principle based approach is flexible whereas the rules based approach is just the ticking and crossing of the rules and have nothing to do with the essence of the rules. Communication management Good communication and the good presentation can affect the promotions. A good communication skill can open the doors of promotion on me. This is the executive’s quality to communicate effectively. A good communication does not have any specific styles but the formal rules lying under this subject can help me a lot. How to talk with the subordinate within the hierarchy of an organization is considered as a little thing and often overlooked by many individuals, I will not repeat this mistake. Through effective communication skills I will be noted by management, and hence being noted, mo good appraisal report will be more considerable. The good presentation includes the dressing. It has always a positive affect and even a person with average skills can impress the boss with good dressing sense. The staff managers are more concerned about the dress (Handel 151). The adaptation of formal and informal culture however varies and the democratic organizations tend to have more informal culture than the autocratic ones. Conclusion My traits of working hard will be the basic quality, and when this basic quality will be mixed with conflict management, leadership quality, professionalism and communications skills, it will create the results more than the sum of these factors. This is called synergy. This synergy will help me in taking opportunities and with the experience in the backup will move me at the place considerable for the higher designation. A person becomes what he/she wants to become. Read More
