Body On one end are the several benefits that can be attained through cars and on the other end are the losses that are associated with these automobiles. Cars have been recognized as one of the major cause of increase in pollution in the American society. According to the agency of United States Environmental Protection, 75% of the gas called carbon monoxide which is ruining the environment is emitted through motor vehicles (EPA, 2013).

Cars have even been associated with various deaths caused due to road accidents. According to the CDC (Center for Disease Control and Prevention) a total of 10.9 individuals out of a population of 100,000 die due to motor vehicle traffic (CDC, 2013). There are several other negative outcomes of cars in the American society but this does not mean that all cars should be banned. Cars should not be banned due to the several benefits associated with them and methods should be figured out to reduce the negative effects of cars in the American society.

Cars should not be banned because banning all cars is an unethical decision. Decisions that benefit over all society are considered as ethical decisions according to the ethical rule making theory of utilitarianism. If cars are banned, the overall society will experience various negative outcomes and the benefits of such a decision will be relatively low. The various negative effects of banning all cars include: delay in travelling time period, loss of time in travelling, economic losses, health related delays and failure to meet deadlines.

The few benefits associated with this decision include: safer environment and decline in deaths caused due to car accidents. There are several economic costs associated with the decision of banning of all cars. One of the economic failures will be the inability of manufacturers to provide goods and services to customers in a timely manner. Due to this, shortage of supply of goods and services will be caused and goods and services will be charged at higher prices as demand will exceed supply. Another issue is that the automobile sector of America is a heavy contributor the economic development of US and they employ heavy amount of unskilled and skilled employees.

If cars are banned, the production of cars will even be stopped and this will result in unemployment of millions of individuals who work in the automobile sector. According to the Center for Automotive Research a total of 1.7 million individuals are employed in the automotive industry of United States of America (CAR, 2013). This means that if cars are banned in the region of US, then these 1.78 million individuals will lose their jobs and will be out on the streets looking for replacements. At the micro level, it may seem that only the automotive manufacturing industry is going to be negatively impacted by the banning of all cars.

At the macro level, other industries such as the tourism and the overall economy and the people working in associated industry will even be negatively impacted due to this decision. Putting a ban to all cars in the region of US will even impact the culture as well as the society of US in a negative manner.
