The Z Club Analysis - Essay Example

That the seeming gap that exists between recent immigrants and people who were born in the US is exaggerated by the media and politicians, and that given the opportunities the American citizens have, the immigrants would exhibit great intellectual potential and would be able to secure themselves financially.

That was the main reason for founding the Z club, sponsored by Zonta International, which is a worldwide organization of executives in business and professions working together to advance the status of women. The objective of Z Club though was somewhat different. It was aimed at the development of leadership qualities and skills, encouraging service to the school and community, promoting career exploration, improving international understanding, and promoting fellowship among the people of the world. I was the founder and president of this club. The Z Club still is my favorite project, maybe because of all the hardships I had to come through to materialize my dream.

At first, the school council wasn't very cooperative. To register for the club they requested I make a live presentation. I spent lots of effort preparing for it and gathered lots of information. When the time for the presentation came, I invited the office bearers including the President and Chairperson from our sponsoring club. Unfortunately, after the presentation refused to register the Z Club. To get to know the reasons for this decision I talked with every member of the school council. They thought that our club was a duplicate of other service clubs in school. After a few attempts and a new improved presentation my followers and I managed to persuade them that the objectives of our club are different like building leadership and a global outlook.

I suspect they allowed the existence of the Z Club as they hoped nobody will join this initiative, but the school officials were wrong. It turned out there were hundreds of people who shared my ideas. We boasted several over 100 members in just a couple of months. We put lots of time and effort into organizing charitable events, and our major project was to teach English and computer literacy to new immigrants who arrived from Hong Kong. We also mobilized our members every other Saturday to sell flags on the street. The money raised was donated to different charities.

The Z club taught me a lot. When running it, I realized that there always are people who share your ideas and beliefs; your task is just to notify them about your existence. I learned that to be a proper leader you should gather and analyze the ideas your colleagues give you, choose the best of them, and put in the efforts of your team for the realization of the best project. When I graduated from high school, I developed a strong succession plan, thus The Z Club is still running strong in my school, continuing to promote the values I wanted it to promote, and I feel proud of my followers.
