What Do We Need to Learn? The Role of Education and Training The role of education and training is vital for any community. Education and training prepare young people to the future employment. The lack of both motivates high rate of youth unemployment. According to The Toronto Star Research, young people who leave colleges and universities in Canada remain either jobless or have to work for free in order to meet the requirements of their potential employers. This situation is typical of different world societies where there seems no country for young men.

Only if government, employers and educators cooperate, they can to cope with the lack of educated and well-skilled employers and minimize youth unemployment rates together.Sandell’s research reveals that only some graduates have enough skills to fit the positions available. The rest of people have a choice either to work for free or to be jobless. Companies in Canada do not think that on-job training in important; moreover, they do not want to pay money to young applicants. Internship programs allow them to have free labor; in terms of market economy it is a great benefit for them.

For young people internship programs are very discouraging because they have to work for free or they will never be paid even the entry level salary. One more important point mentioned in the research is that employees fully rely on education in cases when they want to employ only well-skilled and young employees (Sandell). In most cases the skills required by the employers can be gained only in job practice. Only young people suffer from this situation. They often pay money for education and go into debt with the hope that they will get sustainable employment after the graduation.

In Canada, companies underestimate their roles in training for youth; the same industry in the USA is much better developed. To add to the point, hiring practices are often out-of-date and irrelevant. One more contributor to the issue of unemployment is education. Currently, the system of education in Canada is trying to prepare students to the world competition by removing anything human from this process. The upcoming reforms and changes in campuses are aimed at increasing control and limiting freedoms students have.

Increased tuition fees only support the system of hierarchy and division of common people from the elite. All these reforms in education only make the problem even more terrible. As Sears & Cairns mention, all these changes are crafted to make students abandon their hopes and unrealistic expectation concerning their future life. However, all these reforms meet the opposition of students who are not willing to confront. All these articles together generate the idea that youth needs support and understanding.

If government invests more money to create social strictures and educate career counselors, all community will benefit in the future. Sometimes students drop out of schools because they already face serious issues regarding their family welfare. Higher drop-out rates leads to more possibilities of future unemployment. Higher prices for education which does not promises any sustainable employment and leaves graduates with their debts alone cannot reduce youth unemployment rates. Contrary to the current trends in education, the system needs to undergo the processes of liberalization and decolonization to support the principles of equality for all.

Educators should accept their changing roles and take responsibilities in order to decrease drop-out rates. The system, which tries to dehumanize education, needs to make it more human. Employers, who are unhappy with low-skilled workers, can initiate on-job trainings to train young people. Finally, government has enough power to initiate all these changes and make the system work.
