Two American families Two American Families The movie “Two American families” as narrated by Moyers talks about how insurgence of immigrants from Mexico and other parts of the world caused the economic recession to the United States in 1991. The situation led to the loss of jobs of two family heads Newman’s and Stanley forcing them to undergo shifts into nonunion jobs that are characterized by fewer benefits and low payments. In order to support their families, they got it rough trying to pay mortgages and electricity bills among other settlements (Moyers, 2013).

One year later, when George Bush took over the presidency, things suddenly came to twist when Tony got a new job paying a few dollars an hour, but far much less to support the family. However, the situation did not persist when he later got another job with one of the leading companies paying good salaries occasioned by minimum benefits. It was on the contrary to his wife who also got a job as a security guard doubling up as a truck driver and a messenger. However, she could earn less than the husband could, but her work had numerous benefits.

The movie indicates how the two works hard to sort their mortgage, which they claimed was two years behind (Moyers, 2013).On the other part, Stanley, having lacked proper college education sustained himself a job as a labor, but due to his good work, he is promoted to be the supervisor where he gets some extra bonuses on top of his usual pay. As a Christian, he articulates that he is better off compared to his initial status, though he still needed an extra $1000 to buy credit card. His wife Terry ventured into real estate business as a sales person where she earns a fraction of every house sold under her name.

The movie ends by the two families having a success story where most of the Newman’s kids are employed as policy makers and in the naval force. However, Stanley got divorced, and the wife worked for part time to save and buy herself a place (Moyers, 2013).References:Moyers, D. (2013).Two American families. PBS Frontline.
