An example of this is the massive donor funding that China has directed towards the country (Telo, 2009). However, a negative effect is sited when the country goes into war. If a certain donor - country or organization intended to donate to the country and witnesses the nature of issues in the country it may opt to offer the donation to a more centralized country. This was the case in 1962 when Cuba was facing a major missile crisis. In the crisis, the country had failed to surrender the respective codes for its missiles and many nations had told the leader at the time that this would create a cold war.

The leader did not bulge regarding the issue. In the following year, the country asked Great Britain for assistance in food but the United Kingdom would not offer assistance for it feared the reaction from other countries (Thyne, 2011). The other negative effect that comes from going into war with regard to receiving donor funding is the fact that people do not wish to invest in the country. Investment is an indirect way of funding a country despite the fact that the investor accumulates profits.

When investors recognized that Cuba was at war with almost every country in the Middle East, most of them, especially France, opted not to invest in a country they deemed unstable (Robinson, 2013). The current Cuban government has received a lot of foreign aid and this has assisted the country in solving most of its problems. One of the problems that the country faces is draught and famine. The draught and famine have been major causes of conflicts in the country since people from different regions attack each other in search of food commodities.
