Statistical data show that four children are killed every day in the US, 187 are arrested for violent crimes, and over one thousand children are reported to have been abused. It shows how grievous the children life is in the country. Notably, there are ever-increasing malpractice reports on children every year. The authors write, “It is an old truism that every solution contains within it the seeds of a new problem. This has proven to be true in child protective services.” Describe some of the unintended consequences stemming from the development of child protective services.

Do any of these consequences still exist today? From the perspective of the welfare system, they think that they are doing all fine to correct and make right the lives of children with all sorts of problems including those in foster care. However, there are sorts of views concerning the manner they approach the issue. They delve mostly into child abuse rather than thinking of ways of rebuilding them (Popple, & Leighninger, 2008). In the same token, the welfare services lack proper guidelines and laws in place, which delves squarely on the matters of children.

For example, in foster care facilities, there are often foster drifts, a lack of long-term plans to assist the children, and the temporary nature of it. In any way, such facilities do have a psychological effect on children. Identify and explain three criticisms of the Children’s Aid Society. Did any positive techniques or approaches come from this society’s work? The three criticism include the foster care was not temporary, no support for various families, and lack of background checks, and no emphasis on the cause of abuse and neglect on the children (Popple, & Leighninger, 2008).

The first issue is the lack of temporary foster care, which is projected to result in a problem of overpopulation in the facility as it may age with an overwhelming population if there is no proper solution for the children. Second, the lack of assistance to families and no background checks on the affected children, which may encourage the repeat of the problem. Last, most facilities do not even care to research the case of a child’s problem. In any way, the Children’s Aid Society assisted with policies, which may be helpful at solving most of these problems.

Describe the groups that oppose the family preservation policy and their respective arguments. Based on what you have learned do you think that these are valid arguments? Why or why not? Some people believe that the emphasis on family preservation has all along been misguided in one way or another, which then put the lives of more children at risk. As a result, the policies should be children-centered, and they should delve much into the need of children, to mean things that are in the best interest of a child, even if it means not returning a child to their biological parents.

In my view, I think these sentiments are valid because of the focus on children and ways of rebuilding them. Most of the family preservation policies often think of neglect and abuse rather than finding ways of restoring the affected children economically and in education. Therefore, family preservation should be an option and not treated as an end-goal.
