Global citizenship calls the person to have respect for self and others. Every individual is required to think deeply and critically about various concepts of global citizenship. These concepts include justice and developing equitability der to make the world a better place for every person to live. These global dreams cannot be achieved if the right awareness is not created and the concepts inculcated in the mind of young people who hold the future of tomorrow. When young people fathom the need to be global citizens, then they can develop the confidence to stand firm for what they believe in and assess their ethics and consider the magnitude of their decisions even before implementation (Moccia, 2015, P.16). The actions of an individual considering themselves as the global citizens are meant to impact the world other than ones nation. For instance, global citizens see the issue of increased migration of people from the war zone countries like Syria as human right issue that requires an urgent solution. Similarly, the global climate change is an important subject to global citizens. What do I currently do that shows I am a Global Citizen? I consider myself a global citizen and one of my goals are to develop my talents and skills to match the global needs. One of the means that I have adopted is through acquiring education. I take my studies serious so that I can understand everything that my course pertains. Knowledge is essential in the current world as it plays a major role in broadening the perceptive (Dower and Williams, 2016, P.106). In the course of studies, I made friends from the different nationality, and cultural background and I can appreciate people for who they are as opposed to focussing on our cultural differences negatively. I seek to develop my communication skills by volunteering to give a public speech when I encounter such an opportunity. Proper communication skills are one of the important attributes of the business leaders and other leaders in their respective field. It is often said that people learn things better if they do them practically; I have also adopted this principal by undertaking internships and volunteer activities especially in my field. The topic four in the lecture elaborates on moral reasoning before doing something (Roth, 2005, P. 33). I had encountered situations when I had to apply a moral reasoning and faced the consequence whatever the outcome. For instance, there is a time I failed to show up for a class lecture because I had some errands when the lecture asked me about my absenteeism, I had, to be honest, and told the truth. The lecturer reprimanded me, and I decided to take it positively, and this depicts reasoning on moral grounds. I am compassionate to other, and I can take other people without complaints. Global citizens are supposed to recognize other people as equal to them and hence treat them with respect and dignity. Many businesses seek to penetrate the global market and technology has made this possible. However, the difficult part is getting a significant market share because of competitors. To become a better global citizen o have developed my analytical skills to enables me to look at the problem in different dimensions. I believe that it is important to learn from the mistakes of other people rather than having to experience every situation. I also value listening various idea from different people and then making a final decision after evaluating all the possibilities. Business leaders with the global citizenship take calculated risks as a way of testing the market. Similarly, I have learned over years that taking risks; I like venturing into the world of the unknown, and it requires courage and self-determination. A risk present the possibility of success or failure, but the important thing is the lessons that one can learn. This is one of the attributes of the business leaders in their respective field. What do I need to consider when making a decision, regarding Global Citizenship? Global citizenship requires one to develop and appreciate the sense of belonging to the world community (Brown & Kysilka, 2002, P. 78). However, becoming a member of the world community does not mean that we stop our allegiance to our nations that has shaped our values. Instead, instead it means the scope of our responsibility is now wider, and thus one can establish a role to play in solving problems that affect the world. Therefore global citizenship means that there is an increase of responsibility, and consequently, the global values need to be understood. Some the values are the support of human rights, environmental conservation and gender equity, appreciation of cultural diversity. I have learned that it depends much on a personal effort to change our perception of the globe. Furthermore, the challenges that are faced in one's country are similar across many nations. For instance, every nation seeks to develop the economy, and this depends on the role of the citizens. One of the ways of solving global problems is by connecting with the like-minded people and devise the best approach to the global issue. Becoming part of the global initiatives programs is crucial in changing the way we think and perceive the global matters. It is important to understand the role of my country in the global community (Patton, 2016, P.2). Another key element necessary when deciding to be a global citizen is to develop values of wisdom, having compassion and respect and exercising justice. As the future business leader, it is important to develop a refined character so as to impact the world positively. I believe that I will make a positive change and that I will be an inspiration to many. As a future leader, I will rely on the normative theories to avoid the temptation of focusing much on gains at the expense of right ways of making profits. I have learned the benefits of virtues such honesty, trust, humility, self-control, and I believe they depict a strong character that is needed in the world. What have I learned about a culture other than my own? Culture refers to a certain way of life, and it is one of the personal identities. It is crucial to appreciate the culture of other people in as much as we love our culture (Galpin, 2013, P.29). When people fail to respect the culture of a different community, it leads to conflicts. Adopting wrong behaviour such as discrimination and prejudices depicts that one lack moral reasoning to value cultural diversity. Currently, there some organization that has employees from a different culture, working together peacefully. Therefore, as a global citizen, there is the need to embrace our culture and that of others so as to foster good working relationships. Studies show that when people are undermined based on their culture, they are likely to develop low self-esteem and have high tendencies to become violent. I have learned that the major conflicts arise from cultural misunderstanding but when people understand another culture it is easier to have sympathy. Learning another culture can help one learn a different way of solving a problem in addition to getting rid of some of our beliefs. Besides, tolerance can be developed through learning different cultures and interacting with diverse communities. We are able to accept others for who they are if we understand them culturally. Another important lesson is that the personal traits, value and beliefs system people are shaped to a greater extent by their culture and they are subject to change. Hence, it is important to avoid pass judgement and grouping people based on their culture. How would I make a decision about something if I lived in another country? and why would it be different to the decision I make if I were in Australia? The global issue requires critical thinking and careful evaluation of the situation to understand the ramifications before making the decision. As a global citizen, my actions would be guided by moral principles and the personal responsibility that requires fairness and justice actions. Therefore if I lived in another country and something arises that requires my input I would apply a similar principle of thinking through the issue, assess the impact. I will consider the views of other people and the impact to the whole community. My ethical decision should be free from conflict of interest; hence, there is no private gain attached to the issue. As an accountant, one is expected to be honest and responsible in their actions. The financial statements and records should be correct and depict accuracy. It is also important to exercise self awareness by constantly reflecting upon our actions to determine if they impact the world positively. One is supposed to show respect and dignity to the employer and the colleague employees without the regard of the country where the person is working. The decisions made from country to country should not be influenced by cultural differences. In some countries, the policies and regulation can affect the decisions, for instance, public shaming is adopted to punish the professional whose actions contravene the standard moral conducts. Thus, when an individual is aware of the instituted consequences for wrong actions, they are propelled to act responsibly. Time taken to reach a final decision is another factor to consider, for instance, some countries reach the decisions after a short period while others for a decision to be finalized many protocols are involved. Therefore, as the aspiring business leader, I ought to know much about other countries, their business policies, what I can expect from a decision relating to business and the culture. Conclusion As a global citizen, one is required to develop an all round character and establish their role. In addition, developing the respect and value for diversity can enhance relationships and lead to peaceful coexistence. The importance of education cannot be underestimated as it is a means through which we acquire knowledge and skills (Günel, & Pehlivan, 2016, p.59 ). We also get to learn human values from the education, and when all these factors are combined, a person can be in a position of recognizing opportunities, grab them and utilize them for the progress of the planet. The world is not deficient of challenges, and it depends on the personal effort to provide the solutions that result from critical thinking and analyzing the problems. Some of the global challenges are environmental, political, economic and social in nature.
