The Three Intersections of My Social Standpoint The Three Intersections of My Social Standpoint As theorized by Hill Collins, the matrix of domination relates to the sociological paradigm that seeks to explain the pertinent concerns of oppression, which deal with gender, class and race. I am an Asian girl from a middle-class family. The three significant facet of social standpoint entail gender, class and race. As a young girl growing in a setting dominated by men, I feel oppressed. It is a challenge that I have to live with and acknowledge it.

Just like it would be the case of a number of individuals who may share this sociological standpoint with me, it is a retrogressive experience. For some time, the race has been an issue that I struggle with since I often feel that some other races dominate mine. It is imperative to assert that the mentioned sociological standpoint affects me and define my daily experience and how I relate to varied individuals whom I encounter. In addition, class as another significant facet of sociological standpoint, which has an immense influence on my life.

Since I am from a background that is second in terms of social class, I feel that the high social class individuals dominate over me. Fighting and adopting new sociological standpoint is something that can prove difficult to do. Thus, the one aspect that I would change is the race. The above resonates well with the argument of Collins. Collins asserts “Black feminist thought’s core themes at work, family, sexual politics, motherhood, and political activissm rely on paradigms that emphasize the importance of intersecting oppression in shaping the US matrix of domination” pp.
