Especially by means of attention to every stage of the process of delivery or production. The quality assurance agency (QAA) for higher education, is the independent body entrusted with monitoring, and advising on, standards and quality in the United Kingdom’s higher education. There are numerous broad trends that have shown interest in the policies of quality assurance in higher education, these trends include, growth in the diverse educational offerings, making of higher education international, increase in the capacity higher education institutions can accommodate about distance learning, and provision of mass higher education.

The quality assurance agency for higher education (QAA) is a sovereign agency in the UK, which was established with the main agenda of improving the quality and standards of higher education in the UK. Its main business is to carry out external peer reviews of all degree-awarding bodies in the UK. It also ensures that the standard and quality of higher education in the UK are of sound. It monitors the way universities and colleges maintain their quality and standards in academics (Woodhouse, 1999, pg 45).

In higher education, the term quality assurance is used widely to refer to practices, which are academically maintained standards such as achievement of standards higher education graduates. The definition of academic quality should be equivalent to the standards of academics and they should be consistent any emerging issues in relation to higher education policies which are based on outcomes from student learning. A student achieves a certain level of skill, knowledge, and ability because of their commitment to a certain educational program.

There should always a clear distinction between external and internal academic quality assurance in higher education. The term internal quality assurance in Higher education refers to those practices and policies whereby institutions govern and improve the standards of their education while on the other hand external quality assurance is used to refer to supra-institutional practices and rules which are applicable to quality higher education programs (Newton, 2000, Pg. 65).
