IMPACTS OF FESTIVAL AND EVENTS By Location Introduction The London Olympic vowed to be the most sustainable games ever. The discussion below seeks to evaluate how green is the London 20121 Olympic games and also outlining the positive and negative effects of the London 2012 Olympic game on its city when trying to make their games the most green. Comparing the London 2012 Olympics to other games such as the Beijing Olympics of 2008 and the Sydney Olympics of 2000 will enable to get a clear rating of the London 2012 Olympics. There were many things that London deed in order of sustaining its Olympics. This includes the building of Gold. Old gas pipes which had been abandoned long time ago were used to build the stadium instead of using virgin steel. The old gas pipes were used to build all round the stadium. The roofing was done by recycling steel of about two thirds of the roof. It cost about half a million to pay the construction industry, which cut the steel. On the other hand, Beijing used a tenth of what London used in construction. Beijing majorly used timber sourced and natural light for ventilation of the velondrone. This enabled the London 2012 Olympics to pass the standards of sustainability since its centre of aquatics was concrete and covered with steel (Great Britain 2012, p. 26). This enabled them to win the Gold medal. London got sponsorship from big companies such as the Coca-Cola and BP, which helped to sustain the Olympics. People believe that getting sponsored or getting loans from controversial companies which deal in oil, drinks that are sugary like Coca- Cola companies, companies which deal with nuclear power and weapons, will definitely tarnish the image of the games since such companies have some negative effects on the health of human beings. Some years ago, Adidas and Dow Chemicals have been found in such messes such as abuse of human rights, which tainted its image. However, other big companies use the opportunity of sponsoring games to show the world that they can be able to lead them to greater heights and especially in terms of boosting energy. The athletes were ferried around by the hybrid BMWs (Beijing 2008, p. 36). Therefore, they were able to win a Gold medal. London recycled about 97% of the waste from the construction plant by filling the land. During the Olympics games, the LOCOG which is the London Organizing Committee of the Olympic and Paralympics games not have done any waste that they could use for land filling. They aimed at re-using, recycling any waste and utilize any waste that they may come across in their policy of landfill and they also were aimed at achieving 70 percent (Demaus, Cagan & Cagan 2008, p. 47). London is achieving 73 per cent of the policy, according to the current research which is extremely encouraging, especially when the rest or most of the recycling rates of most of the events still lag at 15 per cent. This enabled the London 2012 Olympics ton to acquire silver and as a result, it still maintains and sustains its standards. The games are supposed to be the venue whereby people are taught on how to recycle waste materials since in spite the fact that there are many waste bins around the stadiums, people do not use them effectively (Brownell 2008, p. 12). The people should learn to listen to the instruction on the policy of the landfill of waste so that they could be able to boost the standards more and they were also able to win a Gold medal. The London 2012 Olympic has also won silver after achieving 47 per cent of the reduction of the emissions of carbon. They combined the use of supplies from green electricity cent, which they did not achieve, but rather achieved the 47 percent. Due to this achievement, the London 2012 Olympic won a silver medal and thus has maintained and sustained its standards (United Nations Environment Programme 2007, p. 17). The London Olympics won silver medal because of the transportation that they invented. London has been doing very well with the tube transportation, buses and electric trains which have greatly affected the smooth running of transportation. This gave the opportunity for people to be able to walk around luxuriously and also others could cycle comfortably without too much congestion on the roads. This is also another way that London used to sustain and maintain the standards (Findling 2004, p. 55). The London games won a Gold medal for making a legacy. It has been the first Legacy Development Corporation as it started its participation in the Olympics. The main reason of the London games to come up with the corporation was to establish their commitment to continue to sustain their activities, especially in the fields of Business, transportation, and in Buildings. This also made the London Olympics to maintain and sustain their standards since they had a goal that they looked forward to achieve (Great Britain 2007, p. 37). In the provision of food, the London 2012 Olympics won a silver medal. The opening of the McDonalds did a great favour to London and they only provided about 10 percent of the meals while the rest of the percentage was provided by the local stalls around the stadium. The signing of the Food Vision by all the restaurants around enabled the McDonalds to use a variety of foods such as the British beef, a range of chicken eggs available, and even chicken (Great Britain 2007, p. 63). The Food Vision provided that the source of all the ingredients of their meals should be from the local area. The London Olympics did not provide a lot of meals even in their other outlets, but they just ensured that every meal that they provide, there must be enough calories to back up the energy of the players (Toohey & Veal 2007, p. 14). The London Games won a Gold Medal in Wildlife. London have ferried a lot of tons of soil, they engaged in cleaning and reusing the soil. They have done this to a wide land of coverage, especially the Wetlands, which have been made a place to live and the cleaning of Lea River. In addition, the largest woodland in Britain has been cleaned and also the meadows of the wild flowers have been thoroughly cleaned up and encouraged the habitat of animals. Other insects and animals such as the butterflies, the bats and the birds should dwell in the parks (Royal Town Planning Institute 2006, p 5). Water has been has also been recycled. The sewage water, which initially was grey in colour has been recycled and pumped to be used in the irrigation firms and also is used for flushing the toilet. There are also water harvesters which are used to store water for future use and also the green roofs. The harvesting of water has availed water for us, although drinking water became the biggest problem that people faced in the stadiums. People queued in, long queues waiting for to fill their water bottles with clean water to drink (Great Britain 2008, p. 13). However, they were disqualified and lost in the Renewable Energy whereby they set a target of delivering about 20 percent of the power which they did not accomplish but rather LOCOG provided very little amount of energy. This is the only part that they lost and thus they did not maintain their standards as they had promised. Despite the scrapping of a turbine, very few or no resources were found in order to keep the turbine running or even investing in solar (Hunter 2012, 9). The sustenance and maintenance of the standards of the London Olympic Games of 2012 has helped Britain to a larger extent compared to the negative impacts that it brought about. The plans have raised the economy of Britain whereby the government of Britain announced that in July the economy of the state drastically raised to 9.9 billion GBP just because of the success of the hosting of the Olympic Games in 2012 (Great Britain 2008, p. 14). Many people were able to get employment from the hosting of the Olympic game and it is best experienced in sixty years. The economists have predicted that British economy will maintain the straight curve whereby they predict that by 2017, the British economy would have risen to about 16.5 billion GBP through the Paralympics and constructions of Pre-Games and other activities that are related to the economy (Great Britain 2007, session 2006-07). Among the many areas that the economy of Britain has benefited a lot from hosting the Olympics is the industry of construction which has contributed about 7.3 billion pounds to the economy (London 2012, p. 19). The games also had a very positive impact on the employment whereby many people were employed. Generally, 46000 people got employed with the Olympic Games which were also a great achievement. Britain also benefited a great deal from the tourists who flocked into the country because of the Olympic Game. The statistics show that there were about 590000 tourists who visited Britain during the period of the Olympics and them 1290 GBP on average, which also contributed to the economy (Great Britain 2010, p. 33). Conclusion In conclusion the London 2012 Olympic Game has left a record that has never been broken by any other Olympics. The games brought a lot of benefits to the government of Britain, which has also developed a lot. There is absolutely little or no negative impact of the Olympic game of the government. The world should be encouraged to have a systematic organization during future hosting of the Olympics. Bibliography Beijing, B 2008, Beijing review. San Francisco, Cypress.
