The functional style is that which blends form, function, and style. Perhaps the most noticeable element of this approach is in the Bauhaus movement. 2. Sculpture: Sculpture is defined by carving and molding, with an increased emphasis on realism in design, or uniqueness in form. Architecture: Architecture is concerned with both form and function as central tendencies motivating design. Painting: Painting is characterized by formal elements such as abstract expressionism, or technical concerns such as perspective.

Illustration: Illustration is concerned with elements such as color and expressionistic tendencies related to creating engaging characters or scenes. Graphic Design: Graphic design is concerned both with imagistic concerns and also with editing and collage principles. Industrial Design: Industrial design combines both design aesthetics with functional technological concerns. Photography: Photography is concerned with the frame and light and dark contrast. Film: Characteristics of the film are notions of editing and depth of field.

Television: Television, like film, is concerned with depth of field and editing, but places a more increased emphasis on shorter narrative development. 3. Contrast in design is a highly important consideration. From an overarching perspective, it is the design elements that contribute to making one image distinguishable from another. Namely, elements of color, form, and line combine to create a holistic sense of contrast between objects. The implementation of these elements is highly important as they unite to form the aesthetic fabric of the image or images.

Contrast then is a central artistic tool that is implemented to both direct viewer interest and create themes within the design work. Successful artists must implement contrast to achieve their greatest artistic potency. 4. The artist, audience, content, and form are related in terms of communication strategies as the artist must choose whether to create for internal expressive motivation or to conform to audience desires. Additionally, form has a strong impact on the means of expressionism, often influencing the direction of the artist. 5. Contrast – this can be used to create powerful juxtapositions.

Depth of field – can be implemented to create greater realism in design. Vanishing point – this is implemented to create greater realism in perspectiveAbstract expressionism – abandonment of traditional form as a means of emphasizing expressivenessPointillism – small dots that combine in a gestalt-like way to create a greater visual impact6. Style can be categorized as an artist’s particular approach to design. It can be considered as a broad-ranging paradigm in art. Finally, it can be considered as an approach to a specific design element. 7. Study and imitate the works of past artists. Incorporate greater contrast in color to create more engaging juxtapositions. Implement greater perspective.
