“The Flood” Snack Bar Introduction This essay analyzes and interprets Misrach’s Desert Cantos, ‘Flood, Snack bar’. The picture is from the Cantos series. The analysis and the interpretation will be based on the ‘Scapeland’ by Rebecca Solnit. The photos go beyond the decisive the decisive moments showcased by the picture. For instance, the manner in which a camera captures the flood but showcases how a lakeside community was destroyed by a man-made food. Indeed, the picture applies color to create beauty and aesthetic that may catch the eye and making people unable to uncover the real meaning demonstrated. However, the interpretation photos will help showcase that, there is always something more behind the aesthetic and beauty created by the picture. Therefore, color is appropriate language that helps the author of the picture to communicate the themes he intended. Therefore the pictures demonstrate the impacts of irrational man on the American landscape. The main theme depicted by the photo is to help showcase how the irrational people are capable of causing great destruction to both people and property. As the indicted by the photo, it is evident how the manmade flood has submerged the buildings, telephone poles as well other valuable properties. Therefore, through pictures, the author makes it possible to convey both culture and history of how men are destructive to the community. The lake is a natural resource that should be put to effective but if never used well, then is highly destructive. The author also intended to discard beauty since it was the desert’s beauty that creative camera first impelled him with the quest to see that beauty being redeemed. The author also intended the things that one needs to appreciate as well as those that need to be included. The author thus enabled us understand how he attempted to strengthen his timely polemic regarding the stewardship of land. Therefore, the aesthetic contemplation but not isolated aesthetic. Beauty is Deceiving The beauty is viewed as the beginning of terror. The beauty is seen as a hindrance to the understanding culture. From the picture, the beauty has led to destruction of landscape. Indeed, one cannot understand whatever the picture indicates. It is the beauty that has been facilitated by the colored picture that captures the mind of the viewers. The beauty and aesthetic hinders the individual from understanding the consequences of their actions. In other words people cannot make meaning out of the pictures and therefore, there is an urgent to go beyond a mere beauty. Through, people get to draw inference and derive meaning from the picture. In other words, from the picture we see colored photo depicting images of the submerged amenities that are life supporting. However, many readers will be unable to understand that beyond the beautiful pictures, there is something else that is depicted from the photo. For example, the photo indicates that there action of human activities led to the flood that may have claimed many lives and destruction of property. Also, no human activity could be carried on the flood areas as people are scared and even the power lines are submerged. The snack bar picture is submerged and therefore no trading activities can take place in the beach. This has created a lot of loses to the traders who depend on the beach for their lives. Therefore, we should never be attached to beauty but rather have our thoughts and activities informed by rational thinking. Beauty is therefore seen as the beginning of terror such as the flood that brought many activities in the lakeside community to a standstill. Therefore, when we see pictures, there is a need to think about whatever themes or ideas that have influenced their capture. According to this picture therefore, the flood has led to massive losses to the societal members based on the externalities created to the community. Seeing the Invisible The picture should help us understand and uncover whatever is hidden. From the picture, we can see that the manmade flood has led to destruction of the lakeside community. The submerged building and power posts tell emphasizes that whatever one does should be guided but its consequences. It is through this aspect that Rebecca help us dig deep behind the picture and uncover whatever it intended to convey. The author says that by looking at the picture we develop a particular sense and further from the same picture we get to understand the meaning the picture showcases. For example from this picture, we can that there is a flood that has submerge the bar and the building. But it does not stop at the immersed items; we move forward and uncover the consequential losses attached to the effects of the flood. When one is able to see beyond the invisible, it means that an individual will be keen with his actions and may never engage in activities that pose threats to their lives. Only those who are unable to draw meanings from the pictures are trapped and do not see any meaning beyond the images. Therefore, from the reading by Rebecca, we can see the impacts of the flood not only the submerged items. From a given picture, the cantos help us draw meanings. The author uses a number of pictures like the flood, to showcase that we should be able to draw meanings from them and conserve our environment. The pictures really communicate hidden ideas apart from whatever one may view. Therefore, there is an urgent need by viewers not to always look at the picture without carrying further in-depth analysis to draw the meanings. Therefore, from view by Rebecca the analysis of the picture is made possible by going beyond a mere flood seen but the consequences, cause and even the possible intervention appropriate to revamp the situation. Therefore, Rebecca presents a starting point to understanding how we can interpret pictures to make meaning from them. For instance, from the manmade flood we have seen the losses that have risen from it such as halting the activities of the snack bar and other income generating activities that depended on this beach. Therefore, we are inspired to start viewing pictures as stories that talk about the landscape, history and culture. The degradation of the environment has cost the people around the lakeside community massive loses. The Dessert Rebecca uses the desert and alluded it to a paradise than a town that she attaches top prison. In other words the undisturbed loneliness of desert means that it is beneficial to live in a dessert without destroying it rather than being in a town that will have teething problem. In other words, when one moves into the town he gets to know the consequences of the town problems rather than being in a dessert with untainted landscape. To relate this to the photo, the man made flood refers to the destruction that may happen in town leading to submergence of the valuable items and scaring away hum population. However, if they was not the human activity, loneliness in the desert, the lakeside community would be at peace and activities carried out without fear. Thus, from the picture, we learn the need to keep our environment safe from the disastrous human activities that may make life seem impossible as depicted by the submerged amenities. Therefore, this concept Rebecca aids in the analysis and the interpretation of the picture. The dessert in this case is alluded to environmental conservation and prevention that leads to better life than a town that is prone to pollution leading to deteriorating life and difficulty to live happily. Conclusion In conclusion, beauty in photos is deceiving the viewers as it hinders people from developing quest into whatever the meaning of a given photo. The main idea from the photo cannot be understood as beauty obstructs any rational thought that may make us become inquisitive and investigative to discover the meaning of a particular photos based on themes that the authors are trying to convey in any particular picture. The people sights are always drawn into the attractiveness of the pictures based on the use of colored photos. An individual thus cannot think to make any meaning from the photo but rather praise the artwork. Therefore, we cannot be accountable for our actions. From the picture about the flood, we realize the manmade activity triggered the flood that destroyed the lakeside community. The activities of the community dwellers were thus curtailed from the irrational acts of the particular individuals. Therefore, from the discussion we learn to always not to be deceived by beauty as depicted by a particular photo but to go beyond a mere viewing of a photo to uncover every theme conveyed by each photo. Understanding that beauty of photos is in itself obstructive to getting the meanings of a particular picture are a lucrative step into understanding the themes a photo convey. Therefore, from the Food picture, it is evident that a man made activities that are unfounded can greatly affect the lives, activities as well as destruction to the property. Read More
