Museum Introduction Waltl reports that a museum plays an essential role in helping individuals to comprehend their sphere and heritage. It helps them to view their past and how they can connect It with the future. Its major function include preserving, documenting, and acting as a research focal point. They are also seen as centers of information and the mission is to offer an educational experience (1). The word is museum is derived from the Greek dictionary. Its termed as mouseion which means seat of muses. This is further explained to mean a philosophical institution or a place of meditation. However, use of the word to denote a building housing cultural material has since been past with time. The emphasis given to the building has also declined after it started responding to society that created them. This paper gives a description of the Deyoung museum in San-Francisco its brief history and how it has evolved over the years. Deyoung Museum  DE young was created as the fine art building, which was established in the park of California back in 1894 (Frank 11). It was named after some of its founder Michael H DE young. The building was designed in Egyptian style and decorated with statures of the cow goodness.  Initially it was set up for individuals in San-Francisco but has gradually grown to become a major spot for tourist attraction. Officially it was opened a year later in 1895, and different from other museum practice it did not charge any entrance fee. However, doom befell it the infamous 1906, earthquake that ultimately led to its forceful closure. It has been 24 years since the Loma Prieta earthquake damaged the original structure. The building was designed again by Herzog and Meuron who both reside in Swaziland. They took a total of six years to construct and design the building. Museology is the study of concept of a museum. This was created as a result of noting the essential role of museum in the society. The development of this theory was as a result of the realization, that workers in the infrastructures had training only on precise collection. Thus they had little knowledge of the museum and its operation as a whole. These had negative impact in that safeguarding and exhibition of articles or elements were achieved through plagiarizing from other disciplines. With this in mind it is not clear if demands or expectations of individuals were met. Thus all these issues led to the birth of training for museum work that has gradually given rise to novel ideas and has also appealed interesting parties to join in the aid. Deyoung Museum has been a beloved museum for many years and offers fascinating objects telling a lot of the county town (Frank 19). The museum has won a Heritage Lottery Fund in the last years thereby making it possible to undertake major refurbishment. Deyoung Museum is among the museums running for the Art Fund Prize, which is the largest arts prize. The museum is competing against other big organizations such as British and V&A Museums. The service will inform more people about the cause therefore make it possible for the museum to get the prestigious award. Every vote counts to this worthy cause. The University has therefore a considerable number of students who can boost the number of votes for the Deyoung Museum. Increasing awareness will make it possible for people to be aware and vote for the museum. All possible means of increasing awareness will be employed for the service. This service is aimed at increasing awareness to the public to vote for Deyoung Museum in order to win the big award. There is the need of informing the public through public events and websites to increase the number of voters. The aim for this is to create awareness of this amongst our fellow students and encourage them to vote for the museum on our behalf. It is a common custom to watch movies, listen to music and also read fictional materials. These are important sources of information to do with social issues and human history. Today human art has become a very integral part or element of life and thereby explains human sociological issues. Art has also become a part of education career. Different materials ranging from films and fictional books present art as an integral element in our society. These are commonly watched and read by people every day. An advancement toward the idea of the museum certainly occurred early in the 2nd millennium BC at Larsa, in Mesopotamia. Here schools made use of copies of old inscriptions. The ideas of the museum were preservation and interpretation (Frank 47). Collection throughout time has mainly been on classical items. These are items that have religious, magical, and historic significance. Others out of curiosity of individuals but nonetheless this items have had major significance in our society. These items are made accessible to the public often after payment of a small entrance fee. Deyoung Museum has several paintings and pieces of art, which are symbolic. There is also the use of formal elements in order to evoke the above kind of impression. The main medium used is oil. This improves the beauty and quality of the work. This also presents the idea that Venice must have been a prosperous economy. Space has also been adequately used and appropriately organized in order to pass the intended message to the viewer. The other important thing is about the use of light and color. These two have been dynamically used to achieve contrast and drama. They have also been used to offer ‘transitions’ instead of using lines during painting. This is what makes the Venetian art very famous and outstanding. The paintings are produced from oil color and light. It is through the use of the two that contrast is easily achieved (Frank 57). Another important thing is that most arts in the museum appear to have been created in three dimensions in order to make them more outstanding. This is something achieved by painting using oil and light accordingly. In Asia collection of antiques started as early as the Shang dynasty which reigned on china for quite some time. The successors of the kingdom to up the leaf and continued with the same practice. They mainly promote arts in fine work of calligraphy, jade and pottery. Europe the collections were a privilege and thus only were found in princess house or religious places. These collection were also of economic importance for at times use to fund war among other state expenses. Lewis reported that modern museum can trace some of its arts gatherings from prominent individuals. They collected these items during the time of reawakening. Majority of these items were a representation of social class and wealth. They served as nobility to the ruling families. However over time due to the development of spirit of inquiry it all brought a different meaning to the items. These fresh collectors did so for enjoyment, and progression of knowledge. Similarly they were also concerned with the continuity of their collection but did not hold such pledge of succession. Public body received a private collection back in the 16th century and this happened in the country of Switzerland. This lead to the renown Ashmolean Tradescant collection. Similarly, this was given to the Oxford University and it became the primary corporate body to receive a private collection. They were granted the collection on the basis that they had to erect a building for it. This saw the cradle of Ashmolean museum that stands up to know since 1683. According to Tzortzi the key issue in the design of a museum is how the layout of space interacts with the layout of objects to realize a specific effect. The organization of viewing spaces in a sequence is important especially in the accommodation of visitors. This also applies as to also how objects are arranged. The arrangement should be impossible to follow in an logical manner. This makes the visit to be random and explorative. This brings out the interesting part in the visit. Single sequence in a museum entails that individuals have to go through the same order of space in the similar sequence. This means that they cannot change their course. Floor space should be adequate for it provides room for orientation, and also provides space where local movement is interfaced with global movement. It is designed to take the form of an axis. This emphasizes the point made earlier that axis don’t organize the whole structure, they allow search of the museum randomly. In that one can cross an axis to get from one side of the museum to the next independently. Readers should get this well visitors can get from one side to the next but not one section/room to the next. This also implies that group can enter the museum as a group, split when individuals opt to move to the sides and then converge at the same point in the journey. Reciprocity is what is factored in the lighting system. Low-slung light levels for long period of time poses similar destruction as high sun radiation for brief periods. That is according to the law of reprocity. Thus the design should be in that it reduces exposure time and intensity of the light (Frank 74). However, this can also be prevented by placing an object in dark storage cases as is the practice of most museums. Light sensitive objects should not be displayed near windows and also for the visitor’s sake, gradually step down lighting from the entrance so as to make their eyes adapt to the environment. Light monitoring can be enhanced through the purchase of a visible light meter. Work Cited Frank, Phil. The ghost of de Young Museum returns. 2005. Print. New York. McGraw-Hill Humanities Read More
