Unhygienic Food Items and their Effects Introduction: In order to remain fit and healthy, a well balanced and maintained life style is very much important. A well balanced life style may include daily activities of physical fitness and exercises. In addition to physical fitness and exercises a well balanced diet is also necessary. For gaining maximum nutrition out if it, it should be hygienically perfect. All of these things actually make a strong base for a healthy living. Healthy eating may include the entire required mineral and other items which add to the nutrition value of our diet. Contrary to this an unhygienic and unhealthy food may cause problems for the body and thus destroying the physical fitness of the persons. There are many adverse effects of this unhealthy and unhygienic food. There should be a check and balance on such hotels, bars, junk food outlets and shops which are not taking care of the health of their customers and thus selling unhealthy food items. Heavy fine and charges may compel them to provide healthy and nutritious food to the people (Cornell University n.p). Main Body: The minerals present in the healthy and nutritious food items help the body to perform well in the daily routine activities. But now there is a concept of fast food items. This fast food is not that much nutritive as any other healthy food item should be. All the young generation members are very much fond of this fast food. In order to fulfill their requirements there are a number of fast food providing hotels and shops. A survey study showed the increase in the number of fast food hotels in UK in the past five years. It is not negative sign that the number of food providing hotels is increasing in a rapid speed but the issue is the quality of food (Mayo Clinic n.p). It has also been witnessed that the quality and the hygiene of these food items is not considered while manufacturing or production. There can be adverse effects of unhealthy and unhygienic food on the physical fitness of the individuals. These junk foods or commonly called fast foods may lower down the energy level of the human body. The reason for drop down energy level is the inadequate presence of food nutrients which are required by the human body for proper functioning. Another dark side of excessive intake of junk food is that it may damage major body organs like heart and liver etc (Mayo Clinic n.p). Most of the research studies support the evidence that too much intake of unhealthy and nutrition less food create severe problems and many disorders in the human body and thus causing malfunctioning. In addition to nutrition value, there is another issue which may cause damage to the health i.e. the quality of the food. The junk food is the most common item which is used by the people in a frequent way. In most of the cases there is no authenticity of the quality of these junk food items. A low quality food is so much damaging to health. Most of the hotels and the fast food outlets only focus on the quantity and the sale of the food items and the quality issue may remain behind the increasing number of selling items. There should be a regular check and balance on the quality improvements of such food items whose consumption is increasing day by day. There should be a system which is assigned to check such problems on regular basis. According to some authors it is the responsibility of the Government officials and higher authorities to make a sound system which maintain a check and balance on such hotels which are involved in such unethical activities (Public Library of Science n.p). These quality control departments should regulate a system according to which the people may alleged heavy losses if they are providing a low quality food item to the public. The fear of fine or tax may keep them beware of the quality check of their food. There is a kind of Tax called Sin Tax, which is usually applied on the things which are socially regulated among the people. This Sin Tax is usually applied in order to restrict the heavy transaction of that particular thing which is not good for the general public and the society may not permit the excessive and open usage of that particular thing. These things may include alcohol, junk or fast food and tobacco etc. this tax can only be applied if there are state o Government order to make it so. The heavy taxes may restrict the junk food usage among the general public (BMJ-British Medical Journal n.p). in addition, The tax would be expected to raise £276m (€326m; $442m) annually (around 8p per person per week) and would reduce consumption of sugar sweetened drinks by around 15% (BMJ-British Medical Journal n.p). An author has rightly explained that the name of sin tax is known just because of the undesirable behavior of people towards those things on which it is applied. Sin tax is actually a simple form of tax applied on commodities just like simple general sales tax. The only difference is that the general sales tax is applied on all the commodities whereas the sin tax is applied on those commodities only which are not generally and widely accepted by the people. Such taxes like sin tax are useful in nature as they benefit both parties the general public and the Government. Government may get revenues from it while the public will be prohibited for the usage of such items. The main focus of the sin tax will always be the prohibition of those items and commodities which are injurious to health (Mayo Clinic n.p). The actual goal or the objective behind application of sin taxes is to take care of human health and physical fitness because such unhealthy, unhygienic food may cause severe problems in the human body. The research studies have clearly shown that the application of such costs like sin tax is much effective for making people aware to avoid such unhealthy food items. Though it is just an opinion or hypothetical statement but many other author are also of the same opinion that sin tax will help to discourage the excessive use of unhealthy food items which may include junk and fast food (Cornell University n.p). Conclusion All types of junk and fast food are rich in calories and many other fats and carbohydrates which are not at all good for human body and health if intake is very high. The severity of the disorders may get high when the quality of food is also not good. A bad quality and unhygienic food will ultimately destroy the inner and physical fitness of the human body. These bad quality food items are very much injurious to health and may cause damage to human health. There should be strict rules and regulations and policies for the quality control at the shops and hotels that are providing such low quality food to the public. It is the responsibility of the higher authorities of the State and Government to make sure the quality control at these shops. This check and balance should be maintained on regular basis. There should be a quality control department that should work efficiently and most important effectively. A best possible solution to overcome the problem of low quality food is to make a system in which such shops and hotels are charged with heavy fine and taxes in case of breaking the rules and regulations of the quality control department (Public Library of Science n.p). Sin Tax is the best alternate to be applied for those people who are involved in the provision of such low quality food items which are injurious to human health. Sin taxes are only applied to those items or commodities that are socially and ethically not permitted to be used by the public. Works Cited BMJ-British Medical Journal.
