Social Media at Work Many organizations worry much on whether to permit social media at work or ban it. However, inorder to make a reliable decision for these organizations, one must first know the meaning of social media. Some people just jump to the notion of networks such as twitter as social media. Social Media is much broader than that (Worley 4). Many organizations give a reason for banning social media at work because they think it’s a time waster. They also think that there employees will post images and comments inappropriately on social media, which they think can add up to the negativities of the organization (Worley 4).

These are valid reasons that should be put in consideration about the issue of social media at work. However, there are other ways that such organization can effectively use social media. Employees will get an opportunity to research on important issues about the organizations such as connecting with customers or researching on projects to complete (Kovary 46).Many organizations require social media use for roles like sales, research, marketing, customer service and recruitment. It’s therefore major for the employees to understand the effective use of social media (Kovary 46).

In order to manage so, the organization should provide training on the issue of appropriate use of media, establish a social media policy that will provide the conduct expectations, include an open dialogue on the consequences of negative behavior on social media, and also communicate the standards and policy frequently with employees and managers (Kovary 46).ReferencesKovary, Giselle.
