This is important since it gives a guideline on what the organization as a whole is working towards. Additionally, knowledge of the mission, vision, and objectives is important for employees to make a self-assessment to determine if they are in correspondence with individual career goals and aspirations. This should be done frequently new employees joining the organization in order to ensure that the entire workforce is well motivated. It is upon the management to build a conducive and welcoming atmosphere within the organization in a bid to motivate the workforce. A good working environment motivates employees and there are hardly any cases of absenteeism. This is because a conducive atmosphere in work places makes employees feel important and comfortable. It is extremely easy to handle all forms of work related challenges when employees are in a comfortable environment. The management should ensure that employees feel comfortable to approach them with all questions regarding work. For instance, the management can adopt a policy to keep doors of managerial offices open during work hours. This shows transparency from the management hence making employees feel welcome any time with questions regarding work. Such a conducive environment creates happiness and motivation which are crucial for the success of a business. In a bid to motivate the employees further the management can adopt practices that lead employees to the right path in terms of career growth. To achieve career growth it is important to ensure that employees are in the jobs and positions within the organization. This involves placing people with the right skills required for the right task. This is important since it offers employees a chance for career advancement based on their skills and career goals. An opportunity for career growth offers motivation to individuals due to the possibility of a better future. In the process people work harder and better and frequently seek to improve current skills thereby attaining general success of the business. The management should put in place policies that offer chances to employees to improve their skills. For instance the management can introduce on the job trainings to boost skills of the workforce. During such trainings the management can invite professionals to advice on the various areas of interest. Getting advice from professionals may come in handy in improving the ability to juggle between home and work from some of the tips given. This is important for the best performance from the workforce since they learn how to prevent home life from affecting work related activities. Additionally, the management should encourage employees to frequently attend work related seminars and workshops since these come in handy in improving current skills. Better knowledge and skill in a particular area makes people develop interest in the area and challenges related to that particular area become easier to handle. As a result people are likely to gain motivation due to efficiency and experience in the area of concern. Moreover, the management can come up with programs that pay classes for willing employees while simultaneously encouraging employees to enroll. Such efforts make employees feel valued and invested in by the organization. Therefore there is widespread motivation across the entire workforce. Every once in a while, the management can come up with activities that are not work related. For instance the management can frequently host organization parties fully funded by the organization. This breaks work monotony and after such events people are likely to be fresh and ready to work. Additionally, such activities change perceptions towards work since they add fun to work. Also the management can from time to time surprise employees with lunch treats. This makes employees feel appreciated and consequently boost their morale. The management can also give unexpected day offs or early breaks from work such as on Friday afternoons. This reduces fatigues related to work and changes the view of work. Such surprises also build stronger relationships with the management. The changed view of work places as interesting places helps to boost the morale of the entire workforce. It is important to acknowledge efforts and contributions of the workforce in order to boost motivation. A management team that recognizes efforts of its employees every time there is good performance motivates the entire workforce to strive to give such excellent results frequently. When employees try hard to do their best repeatedly without recognition from the management, they are bound to get demotivated with time. It might be in the job description and great performance is expected but by taking a moment to congratulate the workforce in instances of great performance makes an excellent management team. In addition to recognizing efforts and contributions of the workforce, it is also essential to offer incentives based on performance. Organizations that offer incentives are known to have a motivated work force and great performances. For example, the management can come up with certificates issued to the most performing employees. These certificates may be issued on monthly bases such as ‘employee of the month certificate’ to frequently motivate employees. Additionally, the management can come up with better incentives such as commissions, bonuses and or salary raise for best performing employees. This motivates the workforce to work harder in a bid to receive the incentives. In the process of giving incentives the management may consider personal likes to bring even a better feeling to employees. For instance it offer shopping vouchers that enable employees to shop from a certain mall. This means that the employee with the voucher can be able to buy personal requirements as opposed to being handed a gift which a person already owns and has no need for an extra one. In a bid to give incentives the management should ensure that it honors its promises. The management should not just promise to give rewards and then fail to give them after employees attain the set targets. Such practices would demotivate employees thereby reducing their performance. Furthermore, failure to deliver on promises may lead to mistrust from the part of the workforce. As a result this may create a divide between employees and the management and consequently lead to poor relationships. For example if the management promises to give a salary raise or promotion to the best employee in relation to performance, it should make sure that it gives the salary raise. Additionally, the rewards promised should be timely. It is not in the best interest to deliver promises much later after the target has been acquired. This may arguably lead to view of the management as unreliable. With a well-motivated workforce it is now possible to create team work to gain even better performance. The first step in creating team work is identifying factors contributing to lack of team work. In the particular organization in discussion there is division along gender and ethnic lines. Gender and ethnicity are the most common sources of division within organizations and they play a huge role in breaking team work. In such a scenario there is great need educating the entire work force on the importance of equality between the different genders and ethnic groups. The education program would involve professionals in areas of gender equality and advocacy for ethnical equality. In the process of educating the work force, it would be essential to hold individual talks with the employees to understand better the root cause of the divide. Drawing from issues raised, it would be easier to resolve the issues in a bid to bring inequality to an end hence creating a chance of team work. However, educating the work force is not enough to create team work. Creating new programs that facilitate engagement in social activities frequently would play a big role in promoting team work. Social activities offer an opportunity for employees to interact with each other hence they are able to know each other. In a previously dived organization there are high chance that only few employees know one another. Knowledge of colleagues is important in developing team work and it makes interactions in work places easier and more effective. For example holding frequent workforce tours to venues of their choosing. In the course of the tour there should be interesting activities such as games involving team work. For example the work force can form several teams to compete against each other and there would be a reward for the best team. Such activities would be act as good demonstrations for effectiveness of team work. As a result the workforce would be motivated to apply team work in work related activities. Analyzing and Resolving Six Organizational Development Issues This section will seek to analyze and come up with resolutions for six organizational development issues. However, before identifying and coming up with the resolutions, it would be important to appreciate the fact that the term “Organizational Development” has for long remained scientifically undefined. However, the recent past has seen the growth in organizational development as a challenging prospect in different aspects of management including program management. Consequently, it continues to become essential effective management requires proper understanding of different issues. These issues determine either the success or failure of an organization and they include workforce training and development, system issues handling, having a supporting work environment for employee professional development and lastly ensuring a continuity of leadership. Workforce Training and Development Workforce training and development continues to be a serious organizational development issue as most organizations continues to operate in a constant state of flux which could arise from mainly the arising trend of mergers/acquisitions and restructuring within the organizations. It is not lost to us that positive change in the past has proved quite successful and beneficial in the current difficult circumstance coupled with cutthroat competition. However, too much restructuring or restructuring lacking proper planning and implementation have proved to result into instability within the organization. Instability provides an environment that is not conducive for normal operations of the organization making it a challenge to achieve the goals and the objective of the organization. To resolve this, it would be important that the organization organize tailor-made training programs that is cut out for each level of the organization that incorporates both in-house and outsources training. Additionally, incorporating individual training plans that provide members of the organization with an opportunity to contribute their thoughts will prove important as apart from incorporating their input into the training, it will also align the training objectives to the professional development plans of the individual employees making it even more effective. Structure and Processes Separation of organizational structure and processes have in the past been a problem and still continues to be a problem. This problem has not only proved to be stressful to employees, but also proved to be detrimental to the morale of the organization’s staff. An organization’s structure not only consists of the interdependent events, but also activities that are cyclical and repetitive in nature which as a whole creates an organization’s product or service.
