Several charitable organizations are doing significant work in terms of bringing assistance to the needy, not only in terms of food, shelter, and clothing, but also medical and educational assistance, legal services and other facilities for that section of society that is handicapped and/or disadvantaged. But although such charitable organizations function with a noble purpose in mind, it is next to impossible for them to continue with their operations by relying solely upon the whims of the public.

In order to ensure that they are able to function as viable business entities who are in a position to hand out assistance on a continuous basis, a steady stream of funds for operational work and disposition to the needy is needed. In order to ensure that funds are available on a continuous basis, a charitable organization needs to devise effective ways and means to continue to draw its services to public attention, in order to ensure that the donations keep pouring in. When large sums of money are required, it is not possible for a single or a small groups of donors to satisfy the requirements.

Thus a large body of donors needs to be accessed and persuaded to donate to the charity in question or for the purpose that is meant. This is accomplished through a fundraising drive, wherein aggressive soliciting is done among members of the public, in order to acquire that the necessary funds required are procured. A fundraising strategy is therefore vital for any charitable organization that aims to gain public support for its activities.[www.drugscope.org.uk n.d.]. There are professionals available who are experienced in the art of fundraising and offer their services to many organizations.

However, they are sometimes expensive and may also be jaded from years in the business, so that they are unable to bring the necessary enthusiasm to the project.
