Organization Values and Nurse Values Impact on Patient Outcome Monmouth Leadership is central to the success of any individual and subsequently the business under the management of the individual. Leadership is the power and ability to create a vision, develop it for the purpose of change, leading to improvements in outcomes for the organization. Leadership is based on robust evaluation and shared values of evidence of the present practice outcome (Adair, 2010). Here are the ideas about strategic leadership I have been able to arrive to and some of the goals I have in strategic leadership sector: I have to ensure all the voices are heard: One of the greatest secrets of facilitation shows that a leader can increase commitment and buy-in by having those affected by the plan to be part of making the plan (Finkelstein et al., 2009). A strategy has to be created to ensure that every individual is heard, and their thoughts brought to perspective in decision making. This does not however mean that I have to bring everyone to the negotiation table. Ensure the basic information I brought to the negotiation room: sometimes the very important information or idea is always left out when making decisions (Hughes and Beatty, 2010). It is important that I ensure all the information pertaining to decision making is brought to the table. In case, a decision is being made, and certain information is missing or not raised/ hidden, the decisions are likely to be different if the said info was brought to the table. My duty is to make all the information available. Follow through the outcome and hold workers responsible: I have seen a number of situations where strategic planning process is engaged, decisions made and then the final ideas presented to the board, but they are turned down (Morrill, 2010). It is a good and creative idea to follow through the entire process to ensure that everything is on track and also make those who fail to do their part accordingly accountable. Self-Evaluation: Skills and Abilities through My Strategic Leadership Profile Here are the core professional values and my personal commitments in my career: Social Justice: locally and globally embracing social and values of equality, sustainability and justice and recognizing the responsibilities and rights of the future together with the present generation(Finkelstein et al., 2009). Committing to the principles of social justice and democracy through transparent, fair, inclusive and sustainable practices and policies in regards to disability, age, race, gender identity, gender, religion/ belief, ethnicity, and sexual orientation. Respecting and also valuing cultural, ecological and social diversity and promoting the practices and principles of global and local citizenship to the stakeholders. Demonstrating the will and commitment to engage the customers band colleagues in the real business situation to promote the experiences and outcomes (Hughes and Beatty, 2010). Integrity: demonstrating honesty, openness, wisdom, and courage. Integrity involves critically examining professional and personal belief and attributes and challenging the professional practice assumptions. I have the ability to examine deeply the relationship between professional and personal attributes, beliefs, values, and practices to trigger improvement and bring about change in the process (Morrill, 2010). Respect and Trust: behaving and acting in a manner that develops a culture of respect and trust. For instance, being respectful and trustful to my colleagues and seniors. Trust and respect come through the provision of safe and secure working environment for all the involved parties. I am an understanding person, and I follow in the good ethos and have a good understanding of the need of wellbeing of others(Hughes and Beatty, 2010). Demonstrating the commitment towards inspiring and motivating the people I work with, acknowledging their economic and social aspects. I also have the commitment to look into some of the barriers to delivery of service. Professional Commitment: Professional commitment involves engaging all the spheres of professional practice and collegiately working with all the involved members of the organization with adaptability, enthusiasm, and constructive criticality (Adair, 2010). There is also the need to commit to the lifelong professional development, leadership and inquiry as core as collaborative practice and professionalism. Interpersonal abilities and skills: this aspect describes a range of abilities and interpersonal skills on which the organization leaders can borrow from when managing and leading effectively. To bring maximum, I exercise my interpersonal skills in a varied combination to ensure better outcomes for every strategy and project that is required of me. Motivating and inspiring other leaders continually help in growing self-awareness; as a leader I have to continually question my practice through critical inquiry and through the process of reflection. I also have to manage other people and myself effectively with a promise of collegiate practice. I love building and sustaining my own credibility through modelling my commitment to the life-long and career-long professional learning, ethical practice and integrity. I am confident, and I do display my courage when dealing with conflict and criticism(Hughes and Beatty, 2010). I also encourage the growth and development of the qualities of leadership in other people and cultivate respect and trust amongst fellow workers through fostering the leadership opportunities in the entire organization and beyond. It is my pleasure and responsibility as a leader to encourage a healthy relationship with colleagues, customers, and other partners. As a leader, I have to make judgments wisely and make the appropriate judgments through clearly analyzing the situation at hand. All my decisions have to be supported by strong evidence, and I also have to inform those concerned the reason for making specific decisions. My strength lies in the willingness to always engage in dialog and debate and promote creative methods of achieving improvement. I also display reasonable and ethical use of authority and power(Finkelstein et al., 2009). Effective communication is one of the most important ingredients in a leader. It is through good ad effective communication that a leader creates powerful networks that ensure continuity of the business. Through communication, deals are brokered, conflicts are solved, and the message is passed to the customers and the organization progress. As a leader, I have learned to not only communicate effectively, but I am also an excellent listener. It is also important to show openness and honesty with the others(Adair, 2010). A leader needs to know how to handle sensitive and confidential information and also to apply the knowledge to all practices, procedures, and engagements. Showing political insight brings forth a better understanding of the aspects of political influence and power in the relationship between the organization and the society and, the resultant effects of the work of the institution (Finkelstein et al., 2009). Leaders must understand the social and political context in a manner that the organization is impacted Here a chart showing the strategy-making approaches that I usually apply: It includes five simple to follow phases and the flow direction. I often impress my customers with a new perspective on their products and brands(Finkelstein et al., 2009). I communicate very well with my team and customers. I have the ability and the will to ask main questions to identify just the right marketing elements and direction Im passionate and committed to the success of a customers’ brand. Weaknesses I have a powerful, compulsive need to work on things quickly and do away with them from my "to do" list. Sometimes this deals a blow to the quality of my work. I get a little irritated when my junior colleague’s messes up things up even after giving guidelines repeatedly(Adair, 2010). Opportunities One of our main competitors has come up with a trend of treating their smaller customers poorly. I will be attending a mega marketing conference in the next two months. This will provide a perfect platform for our brands and will also allow for strategic networking. I intend to use the seminar as a good training to gain more skills, understand the market better. Our marketing director will go on a long leave starting October. Covering his duties and responsibilities while he is away would be a great career development opportunity to learn from (Hughes and Beatty, 2010). Threats John, one of my colleagues, is a highly skilled professional speaker than I am, and hes a likely powerful competitor if the much anticipated higher positions emerge as was promised last year. Due to recent evident shortages of staffing, I often find myself with lots of work to do, and this impacts my creativity negatively. The present economic climate has led to slow growth of the marketing sector. Many organizations have lain off both casual and permanent workers, and our company may follow suit in the cutbacks. My Action Plan: To leverage my strength, I want to continue taking relevant courses that will keep me up to date with the industry and be competitive in terms of delivery. Through continued education, I will also be in a position to grow my career to the greatest heights (Adair, 2010). Customers make the core of our business; therefore, I intend to continue treating my customers with utmost respect and also to engage in corporate social responsibility to further foster our relationship with the society (Finkelstein et al., 2009). My main weakness is the compulsiveness to work on things quickly. I intend to fight this weakness by practicing patience. I want to listen first, and only take on something when am pretty sure it’s the right thing am doing. Am also taking yoga sessions every evening to help me deal with this hastiness through reflection (Hughes and Beatty, 2010). Being overworked is always associated to understaffing. Understaffing may be because of lack of capacity to hire more staff. I intend to work with our human resources to see that some responsibilities are shared to help me get enough time for rest, creativity while also exploiting m full potential. As one of the top leaders, we do not have any influence on the economic effects that is brought to the business. However, we work as a team to deal with the recommended measures to keep the business afloat through showing leadership, making the right decisions and implementing the right strategies. The greatest opportunity is to cut into the shares of our competitor who has decided to treat their customers poorly. We intend to design customer friend products and accompany it with excellent customer services and packaging. I want to engage a professional trainer to help me up my game when it comes to the spoken word. This way I will not have to worry about my competitors when a job opportunity arises (Finkelstein et al., 2009). My stakeholders are definitely the consumers, suppliers, and the shareholders. My mission is to strive to bring satisfaction to all the stakeholders. The mission is to achieve the vision through passion, dedication for excellent customer service and innovation I have gained (during the semester) a lot from my course. First, am in a position to identify the qualities required in a leader. I understand leadership holistically.
