Treatment or Preventative Measures: Bile Salts/Gallstones Hardening of substances in bile results to gallstone. Gallstones range in size from granule sized to as big as golf balls. The result can be a single large stone, several tiny stones or a combination. The stones obstruct the normal bile flow when lodged in the ducts ferrying bile to the small intestines from the liver. The hepatic ducts, the cystic duct and common bile ducts, are all involved in this process. Bile salts trapped in the leads to inflammation within the gallbladder, ducts, or rarely the liver.

Attacks from gallstones mostly result from eating fatty meals. The condition can be diagnosed from prolonged pains in the upper, rear, or below the right shoulder accompanied by vomiting, abdominal bloating or nausea. However, some of these symptoms may be similar to those of heart attacks and therefore proper diagnosis must be put in effect (Herlong, 2013).Gallstones can be categorized into two; cholesterol and pigment stones. The causal factors that culminate to form gallstones are listed as; body weight, diet, reduced movement by the gallbladder and decreased motility.

The stones are mainly developed where there are imbalances in bile salts. Other risk factors to contracting gallstones include genetics, estrogen, gender, age, ethnic background, obesity, cholesterol drugs, and diabetes. Ideally, prior prevention of gallstones would be better than its treatment. Preventing cholesterol gallstones becomes feasible given that ursodiol, a bile acid medication meant to dissolve cholesterol gallstones given their molecular nature of solubility. Ursodiol, a synthetic UDCA, also prevents from their formation (Herlong, 2013).

It reintroduces a missing bile salt to the human digestive system. The salts are derivatives of the cholesterol that is synthesized in a hepatocyte. Dietary ingested cholesterol or that derived from synthesis, hepatic synthesis, is converted to chenodeoxycholic and bile acids cholic. They are later conjugated into amino acids, glycine or taurine meant to yield the conjugated type which is actively secreted to cannaliculi (Jenkins, 2008). The importance of caring about the lipids is from the sole reason that they perform several biological functions.

They harbor large levels of long term energy. Lipids also are crucial in building cell parts to building membranes besides being a chemical signaling molecule. Energy held here facilitates cellular level’s chemical reaction. If experts were to understand the physical, chemical and biochemical properties of the gallstones molecule, this would be a major breakthrough allowing improvements in the public health. The composition and structure would be used to develop medication that would be used to counter the development of the condition.

There can also be developments of vaccines that would be used to prevent the gallstones from persons known to be prone to the medical complication. Recent research indicates that kids are four times and two times likely for obese kids to contact gallstones as compared to a healthy body weight teenager, it was six times greater in the extreme obesity cases. From this research this shows that if the BMI were to be controlled every now and then, children will be safe from gallstones even to the time they turn into adulthood.

This saves the funds pumped into public health treatment of patients who would otherwise be safe from this ill. The bile salts are amphipathic, containing both lipids soluble, hydrophobic, and hydrophilic, polar regions. The medication administered exploits the molecular characters of cholesterol where its portion in bile salts is hydrophobic, the conjugate of amino acid is polar besides being hydrophilic (Jenkins, 2008). Its amphipathic character allows the introduced bile salts to execute two crucial functions.

Bile salts hold detergent acting methods on dietary fat particles that cause the breakdown, emulsification into minute but microscopic pellets. Solubilization and lipids transport in aqueous environments is facilitated. Bile salts are crucial in this movement and the absorption of fat soluble vitamins broken down eventually eliminating the condition’s occurrence. Some opt for surgery as a way to combat gallstones.Prevention is way better than curing. Ensure that the individual take regular exercise, where movement is low, the risk rises by slowing the digestive system that extends to bowel movements.

Research on caffeine has proved that it can lower cholesterol level in bile and consequently reducing the risks of gallstone developments, take a cup of coffee. Avoid skipping meals to avoid bile build within the gallbladder waiting to be emptied into the next meal. However, there are controversies that surround the molecular compositions of gallstones. It is believed that lithogenic bile develops in some of its patients despite the controls.Work Cited Dieting and gallstones. Bethesda, MD: U.S. Dept.
