Not motivated The fact of the matter is that motivating students is the art to learn as it is one of the major components of prominent teaching. Motivation is that point that every students needs while they are in the journey of education. If students are not motivated to earn education, there are chances that they find education and class lessons boring and that will result as one of the major causes of classroom management problems and the reasons to dropout from school. Motivation is that major component that leads to idealizing your future career (Pierre 1). If a student is not motivated, then they may lack in making proper decisions and may take education as a “burden.” Since it will be a burden for them, they will not study properly and will indulge in activities that hold their interest. Developing motivation is first the duty of parents. If parents give proper motivation and drive enthusiasm in their child, then there is no stone that can come in their way (CEC 21). The duty of the parents is to make sure that their child knows their goals. However, developing motivation is not only the role of parents; it is also a teacher’s role. Teachers are like second parents of students. They guide them and always help them. Developing motivation in students can be done by teachers as they know better how the student is. If motivation is not done by both of these important role players, then there are chances that the student will drop off school. Got a Job: Another major cause of a high dropout rate of students from institutions is their career. While studying, many students secure jobs in multi-national companies and they manage to build a progressive career for themselves. As a result, students prefer to attend their job as compared to their school or college majorly because of the payment they are provided. In some cases, the payment is necessary for them as they do not belong to a wealthy family and it would be beneficial for the student to continue his job rather than spending time and ’wasting’ money on studies (Corrigan et al 27). After a while, they decide to continue with their job rather than studying. This is because they are not willing to leave their job as a person in their age group is in need of money which only a job can provide. Therefore they dropout from school or college without completing their course with their respected institution. In majority cases, they even find out a way to have a better future by working than studying. Another major contributor in students dropping out is their lack of interest in their class and failures in result which is further worsened after getting a job. They feel proud by earning some money for working really hard rather than facing rejection and failure in their classes, even when the pay check they receive is hardly sufficient. They do not realize that the true key to success is getting a certified degree in college and may even end up facing failure in their career (Meece and Eccles 38). Became a Parent: Another reason for dropping out of school, which is mainly common among women of the developing countries such as Pakistan, is parenthood. Many women in Pakistan get married while studying and some even decide to start a family in the process. At first, they think it is manageable, but as time passes and the responsibilities of their child increases, they realize continuing studies Is no longer feasible, neither an option for them. Hence, they decide to drop out from their extremely vital studies and opt to live a domestic life at home, taking care of their family (Brown 75). Some dropouts even consider resuming studies after their child is old enough to study and handle himself, but by then it is too late for them. At this moment it is impossible to resume the hectic pace of their studies and hence, they spend their lives without any significant educational achievement (OECD 4). In this case the students, especially their parents, should realize that marriage and family is a fundamental part of a normal human life, however it should be done after they have received proper and valuable education which will not only help them achieve better in life as with a degree, they would also be able to have success in their career which they might need in their future lives in case of any crisis, and most importantly, it will allow them to be a better, influential and wise parent for their children who could think farsightedly for the betterment of their child. To care for a family member: The major reason, especially in the third world countries, due to which children dropout from schools and colleges is the economic conditions in their family. Many children who belong to economically humble families have to dropout from school even before they could fulfill their fundamental education. This is because their family is in desperate need of another contribution in income for their family. They hardly earn enough to afford a meal twice a day and for them spending from that money on their child’s education. In some cases, they even have a sick family member at home who is consuming a great deal of money for the cure of his disease. In such cases families force their child to start working at extremely low paid jobs which are even illegal and count as child labor. In some cases the child even forfeits his education to do a job as an act of sacrifice and devotion for his family. What they don’t realize is that by depriving their child from fundamental education, they destroy their kids’ entire future and deprive hi from a much successful life. There are very simple solutions to this problem. Our academic institutions should arrange special need based scholarships for these children as they have a huge potential to be great academic scholars (Gross 98). They are extremely hard working, proven by the fact that they work tirelessly at this age, and hence can achieve great success in studies. However, for their future our governments and more importantly, our academic institutions should take their responsibility (Urdan and Pajares 43).
