Extract of sample "Growing as a Professional Mechanical Engineer"

As a graduate with a great passion for mechanics, I have always found machines very interesting to deal with. My love for mechanics started as a teenager when I toured a steel production factory that had several machines and systems and this solidified my desire to pursue a career in mechanical engineering. During the industrial tour, I observed workers operating different machines at different stages of production and also interacted with the engineers asking questions about everything I needed to know. The employees at the factory were friendly and kind enough to give me all the information I needed. Feeling motivated by this experience, I have remained committed to the profession making efforts to learn more about the mechanical industry.

After completing high school, I joined college and pursued an undergraduate course in Mechanical engineering. During my undergraduate years, I gathered immense knowledge in this field through lectures, practical exercises, field visits, and interaction with professionals. Having successfully completed my undergraduate studies, I did my internship at China Southern Airline. The company has a department that specifically deals with the repair of aircraft, their operational machinery, and automotive. This opportunity gave me a chance to apply all the skills learned in class. During this period, I was assigned the duties of a mechanical tasked with the maintenance and repair of various machines in the company. At the end of the training period, my supervisor was so impressed with my skills and professionalism that he gave me a good recommendation.

I’m very appreciative of the scientific skills that I have gathered throughout the education system I have been through. In my primary education, the study of science formed a foundation that would later set the pace for my interest in physics in high school. During these periods, I acquired analytical skills that are important in engineering. My love for science placed me in a good position in class as an excellent student with high levels of innovativeness. I have participated in a number of conferences, workshops, and symposiums to further my knowledge in the field and create networks with other professionals in this field.

Based on the fact that I’m greatly motivated and inspired to develop and grow as a professional mechanical engineer, it has become necessary for me to further my skills. A master’s degree will give me more competitiveness and place me in a better position as a professional. From my experiences at China Southern Airlines, I noticed that there is a deficiency in aviation mechanics in regard to the manner in which inspections are carried out. Given an opportunity to further my skills in this field, I would like to venture further into this field and provide possible solutions that will improve the industry.

The University of Washington is a reputable institution of higher learning known for its competitive graduate and postgraduate programs. In particular, the University’s Mechanical Engineering Department is one of the leading faculties in the institution. It has about 235 students taking various courses whereby 153 of them are full-time students while the rest are part-time students. The institution is known for its engagement in vigorous research and students’ career development. Based on these positive attributes of the institution, it remains my preferred institution for taking my master’s degree program in mechanical engineering.

Based on the reputation of professionalism and competency that is associated with The University of Washington, I expect to receive the best training in my career from the institution. The quality of education that I expect to receive at the University of Washington will be of high quality. During my period of study at the university, I expect to further interact with professionals in my area of specialization who will be resourceful in career development. This will help me improve my competency in this field and cement my position as a professional mechanical engineer. The University is also located in a serene environment that is cool and free from noise and interruptions making it conducive to learning.

After completing my education, it is my desire to give back to society by engaging in community-based projects that will provide solutions for the perennial problems the community has been experiencing. My local community has to deal with constant drainage problems whenever there is intense rainfall. It is my desire as a mechanical engineer to use the skills learned in class to provide a long-lasting solution for them. With the knowledge acquired at the institution, I will be placed in a better position to help my community overcome this perennial problem.

I look forward to joining the institution and becoming a member of the student community. I relish the chance to prove that I’m worthwhile and I have confidence that I will be a real asset to the institution not only in academics but also in a wide range of activities that the university has to offer.
