Personal Development and Ethics al affiliation (Word count, 1500) Personal Development and Ethics 1.0. INTRODUCTION Studies indicate that, engineering is one of the greatest professions in the world. Despite the fact that, most students may end up not completing their course, this course is responsible for the most innovative and sensible inventions, the world has recorded in its databases. Engineering is also credited for its ability to make life appealing by devising all aspects that relate to human survival and comfortability of human life. Engineering is home to success of global communication, transport systems, leisure amongst other myriad of fields. In as much, within the confines of engineering, the tasks are extremely challenging, a good number of individuals keep on trying their luck and follow their passion in the field. Areas that are concerned with research, design, operations and manufacture have posed the greatest challenge in the world of engineering. Young (2003, pp.11) indicates that, students in engineering are at times motivated by the fact that, they have to meet deadlines as well as attain sensible outputs in the course of study. Analysts continue to argue that, the demand for more and more engineers keep escalating with time, an interpretation of the seriousness and demand for experts of the field. In fact, Young (2003, pp.51) argues that the rates of unemployment in engineering related jobs are very minimal. The demand for experts in engineering has over the years recorded an escalating trend. It would be an understatement to argue that, one sector of engineering has had enough of its employees. In this context, engineering courses will almost face the challenge of motivation students to complete their courses at the end. 2.0. Analysis of current education needs and training in PDP My decision to enroll in engineering courses is driven by innate desire to be part of the many numbers that pursue the course of their ambitions. I have always been of the opinion that, engineering not only offers instant job opportunities, but also allows individuals enjoy the flexibility, an important aspect that places individuals in the hastily changing field of engineering. I was also motivated by the fact that engineering has a wide range of career opportunities to select from. This is also aggravated by the actuality that the demand of engineers in the country keeps on recoding tides. According to Davis, Gibbin and National Academy of Engineerering (2002, pp.29), engineering keeps offering new job opportunities for their expertise. Engineering courses can be show cased by giving a general view of the careers that engineering offers. It is in this context that my motivation towards specialization in engineering course did not escape my mind. All fields of engineering are likely to pose opportunities in research, an interpretation of the entry into lasting opportunities. By the end, of my course in engineering, PDP section, I aim to: become an established engineer with the ability to cope with the challenges in the real world support community members through the acquired skills in engineering continuously enhance the skills of professional growth acquired in the course of study always be on the move to develop professional visibilities attained in the study like application of gained knowledge to come up with novel inventions that not only create an entrepreneur out of me but also create job opportunities comprehend the implications of engineering solutions in all aspects, global, economic as well as environmental contexts have full recognition of the importance of having life-long learning in engineering field be conversant with all contemporary issues that relate to engineering field attain the ability to conduct experiments, evaluate and interpret data in engineering contexts ability to utilize the skills and techniques that relate to engineering to develop innovative and creative projects 3.0. Progress throughout my course From the study skills audit I realized that, I was in a better position to organize my learning schedules, through planning and managing my time, prioritize activities, devise best methods of meeting deadlines; a factor that has contributed a great mile to my acquisition of necessary skills mandatory for my future career (Sinfield and Burns, 2008, pp.16). In terms of reading and taking notes in the learning setting, I am now able to select the themes to focus on unlike before the commencement of the course. An in-depth analysis of the teaching and learning strategies has not escaped my mind either. While reading and listening to lectures, it has become extremely easy to take and make sensible notes; this has made learning engineering fun. I have also devised a means of recording and storing my lecture notes. Assignment presentation has been made extremely easy for me. Through constant group works with my classmates, I have not only developed confidence but also learnt so many concepts in the engineering field through discussions and evaluations. Question and answer methods has also proven beneficial to my learning. Questions have a way of instilling the need to learn more on certain aspects in this field. From the questionnaires, I am a totally different person from the student that enrolled in the engineering course. Basics of information technology, that seemed extremely difficult, are now part and parcel of my daily activities. Anything that has to do with any aspect of engineering makes me more sensation to advance my studies in the field. Hull, Jackson and Dick (2010, pp.24) argue that, undertaking a course in engineering is a bit tasking. In the course of my study, I have been able to devise effective strategies that allowed me handle stressful instances during the study. I am well conversant with the symptoms of stress; thus, come up with quick ways of handling the stress. From the X-Y theory, I have been fashioned into a results-driven person who has a way of dealing with tough circumstances in the course of studying engineering. All my personal goals have been driven by the fact that, I have been in a better position to detect my key strengths and weakness both within and outside my course. My enrolment in various clubs and societies in the campus have made me into a more all rounded individual in my career. 4.0. Motivations to study engineering The major motivation towards studying engineering is the fact that the likelihood of getting a job after graduation is extremely high. With exposure to various kinds of jobs and acquisition f skills in engineering, I expect to offer the best to an organization that needs my skills and in return, received a good salary that suits the efforts I have gone through in the effort of becoming the best engineer possible. The engineering course is extremely challenging and interesting. In this context, I will stop at nothing until I attain self actualization by accessing employees who can offer returns and rewards that can match with the efforts put in the course of study. In short, I would summarize my profession options open to the best reward that can be offered to me. 5.0. SWOT analysis From the completed questionnaires, I have minimal doubts on my ability to perform as an individual. I am confident of my ability to handle tough situations in organizations that work with qualified engineers. This is from the fact that, I have undergone a series of experiences in various workplaces that have exposed me to handling situations of all forms. My future in this industry is optimistic than I expected at the commencement of the course. 6.0. Action plan In relation to the TWOS model Threats, Opportunities, Weaknesses and Strengths- my long term objectives are to remain relevant in this field as much as possible. This long term objective will only be possible through constantly studying the novel developments in the field of engineering. In this case in point, therefore, i am warranted to argue that, it is possible to remain as relevant as possible. On a short term basis, the TWOS model allows me handle all forms of situations in my current occupation. This model has over the years been credited with its ability to allow individuals gauge threats that may hinder attaining the goals of the organization, easily detect the opportunities that may be offered to them, grab them and make the best out these opportunities. This model has also been credited with the ability to allow employees make tangible decisions through a careful analysis of the current situation. 7.0. Conclusion Engineering is indeed a profession that offers endless opportunities to individuals of both genders. This course has opened up new opportunities that make my career worthwhile. It is evident that economies would not survive were, it not for the continuous efforts in the engineering field. The ability to embrace the skills of production and manufacturing make individuals, extremely competitive in the global market (Young, 2003, pp.34). Conclusively, engineers can be termed as very important persons in the society. In light to this argument, I am proud to be associated among the many engineers, whose future is promising from a demand of the skills I possess. 8.0.
