After all, life was just perfect. Apart from a few days in school (and those says were really rare because I was a favorite of both the students sand the teachers), life was just perfect. That was not to remain the same. It came a time when I had to move places. My family was moving and it was time to say goodbye to the neighborhood I had called home all my young life. This came with excitement, fear and anxiety. The excitement to explore a different world from where I had always lived took over.

At the same time, the fear of having to step into the unknown was also there. This new development meant that I needed to now go out there and make a set of new friends! I had to leave my friends whom I had known my entire life. Sooner than later, I started experiencing mixing feelings and anxiety was the strongest. I felt like I wanted to divide myself in two so that one part cold remain back and continue to share the good friendships I had known all along, but at the same time, I also felt that moving out would give me an opportunity to explore the world and make some more new friends.

What had began as a positive excitement was now turning into resentment. When I had fist received the news from my parents that we were about to move, I had received the news with positive excitement. I had been so excited that I rushed to my best friend’s home to inform them of the good news. Although some of them were excited for me, one of my closet friends wasn’t, not necessarily because he did not want what was good for me but because he felt that if I left, that would be a big blow to a our friendship.

And that is when the whole reality of the matter dawned on me. I had to understand that I could not eat my cake and still have it. It was one of the strongest lessons I have ever learnt about the principle of opportunity cost. I went back home that evening thinking over the matter.
