Some of the ways include hunting, animal testing, fur trading purposes, use of animals in sports, factory farming, and use of animals for entertainment purposes. Some ways of showing cruelty towards animals are termed as active cruelty in which a person or a group of people intentionally hurts an animal. For example, there is a game played in Spain in which a person fights with a bull and tortures the bull until death. In today’s farming industry, the dairy cows are made pregnant by artificial insemination so that they are able to give birth every year. The duration of pregnancy for a cow is the same as humans, that is, nine months. Thus, giving birth every year is a very tiresome job for a cow. Moreover, in some countries, people give special drugs to their cows and goats that make these animals produce milk much more than they can produce naturally. Although, use of such drugs makes cows produce more milk, but they adversely affect the mental and physical health of cows. When the production of milk is greater than the quantity of calcium made in the cows’ body, it causes calcium deficiency in the milk. Some people believe that production of large quantities of milk is their right as they are the owners of those cows. But the point is that who has given them the right to be so cruel to those cows? Who has given them the right to slaughter those cows for human consumption just when they reach the age of 2 to 3 years? In some countries, there is no proper management of zoological parks and animals are not given proper diet that they need to remain healthy. This is an extreme violation of animal rights because people earn money through animals that they keep under custody but do not give required attention towards their diet and health. In natural environments, animals are free to eat their desired food but when they are kept in zoos, they do not feel free and this affects their eating habits too. Animals are also used to transport heavy luggage from one place to another. Animals are animals, they cannot say no to their owners and even if they show some resistance due to weakness, their owners beat them and forcefully make them carry heavy loads. This is a very harsh example of violation of animal rights. The main cause of this movement is to make people stop showing cruelty towards animals. The people who raise their voice to protect animal rights believe that animals also possess emotions and feelings, which should be realized, and the cruelty that many people show towards animals should be ended. Another aim of the animal rights movement is to stop people from killing or torturing animals for their personal uses and benefits. Animals are animals, they cannot speak but we are human, we must understand their feelings and nature. summing it up, although animals are inferior to humans if assessed intellectually, it is very inhumane to violate their rights. Animal Rights: Blog # 2 The purpose of this blog is to inform the audience about a very serious issue, namely, Animal Cruelty, which still prevails in our sophisticated society. In some countries like Spain and Portugal, people play a game in which bullfighters, often known as matadors, kill innocent bulls in a very cruel way. The game has three parts. In the first part, a man mounted on a horse rides around a bull and hits it on its neck muscles to make the muscles weak. In the second part, a group of men throws sharp edged sticks at the bull to cause as much pain to the bull as possible. At the end of this part, the bull becomes extremely exhausted and almost dead. In the third and the last part, a man inserts a sharp edged knife in the head of the bull very, forcefully which causes death of the bull. The man, who inserts the knife and causes death, is rewarded with the prize. How cruel it is! Is there any sense in this act? Can this act be called an act of human? Can torturing an innocent animal like this be called a game? These are some of the questions, which really need to be answered by the people playing this game. Factory farming poses great threats to the welfare of animals. The European Union has also recognized that animals do feel pain and pleasure. They do undergo stress and distress. They can weep. Let us join our hands together to promise that we will work together to save these animals from cruelty and abuse. Animals who feed us need to be fed. They need to be listened and taken care of. We should not ignore them, their feelings, and their needs. Summing it up, it is very inhumane to violate the rights of animals. The acts like using animals for carrying heavy loads, keeping them in zoos, and using artificial means to make them produce more milk fall under the category of violation of animal rights. Animal also feel pain. If they cannot speak, this does not mean that they have no emotions or feelings. The truth is that they possess all sorts of emotions but we cannot understand their emotions. They do undergo stress and distress. It is the responsibility of every person to take care of animal rights not only to stop animal cruelty but also to protect wildlife, which is in great danger these days.
