Abstract

The Bronx borough is one of the most populated municipalities within the New York City of the United States. The Bronx has a population of close to 1.5 million, according to the 2019 census (Wallace, 1990). With high society, there are housing problems and complications that also relate to the high rates of unemployment. The purpose of this research is to find out more information about the Bronx, understand other activities that may help improve the state of the borough and ascertain that the events will positively impact the lives of the youths and the people at large. The research entails the brief history of the Bronx, the factors leading to the problem, the impacts created by the problem, the importance of the project, and how the problem will be solved in changing the Youths' lives. Besides, the project will showcase the activities undertaken and the budget allocation for the project.

Literature Review

The Bronx borough saw a lot of change during the 1960 and 1980s. There was a mass migration of immigrants to the Southwestern part, living most impoverished people. The development of the co-op city only favored the middle class and the high-class individuals (Gonzalez, 2007), then in the 1980s, there was slums growth due to high costs of living and high levels of poverty. In the late 1980s, when the levels of poverty and there were high unemployment rates, the Municipality transformed by creating housing that was less affordable for most populations.

The residents who could not afford such activities and could not acquire decent jobs were forced into joining social vices and other crime-related activities. The most affected members were the youths (Dobbins, 2015). There have also been cases of rape, HIV, and AIDS infections and children being homeless in the Bronx within the years, and it is expected to rise. In the event of avoiding the vices youth engage in, different projects are undertaken by the students, and the teenagers generally change their lives. The progress made by the Youths in the Bronx should help cater to their livelihoods and changing their views from being nothing to something. The school project may base on the positive advancements in the Bronx project. The Municipality has some of the broader gaps in creating projects that may not have been tapped (Van Ryzin, Immerwahr & Altman, 2008). For instance, the Youths may decide to undertake an environmental health project relating to garbage collection due to the weak housing and congestion, hence cleaning and beautifying the Municipality. The project will also help in job creation after some time, help preserve the environment, and transform their lives.

Purpose of the Project

According to Glazer (1987), the Bronx is one of the municipalities of the New York States. It is one of the most densely populated regions of New York City, with the third-highest population densities. The Municipality ranks at the fifteenth, making it one of the poorest congressional Municipalities within the United States. The housing and quality of life in the area are poorly affected due to the high population. Overpopulation has led to the place has some of the social effects such as inadequate housing, congestions leading to poor sanitation and social vices mostly among the youths. The youths in the area have engaged themselves in activities relating to crime such as drug and drug addiction, violence, burglary, among other vices. In the search for a solution to empower such a population, the project undertaken will be able to transform not only their lives but also change the state of the Bronx.

They will be meeting in one area and working together with the Municipality Council in garbage collection, sorting, and cleaning their areas of the locality. The project will also involve the youths coming up with ways of beautifying their Municipality, such as tree planting activities. The project will be able to take three months under which the local youth members will be allocated some funds for their upkeep.

Further Improvements and stakeholder engagement

Working together with the Municipality and the communities around, the students, along with the youths, will raise campaigns meant for environmental protection and cleaning the locality. The Bronx transformation campaign will help the students acquire funds from the Municipality, well-wishers, and stakeholders involved. The Institution will also engage the students by supporting them in the project.
