Crystal methamphetamine is also known as “crystal meth,” “meth,” and “tina,” Methamphetamine works by entering the brain and causes the release of dopamine, norepinephrine, and serotonin. The drug can be smoked, snorted, orally ingested, injected, or used rectally (Breaking the Grip, 2006). Though there is a global concern regarding the rising numbers of people who are into substance use/abuse, the focus of this paper will solely be on the intricate and complicated connection between the use of crystal methamphetamine and homosexual males. Why?The primordial reason behind this limitation is the fact that the use of crystal methamphetamine by homosexual males is a serious problem (Halkitis & Parsons, 2002).

It is claimed that “approximately 10 to 20 per cent of gay men have used methamphetamine in the past six months, a rate at least ten times higher than the general population” (Breaking the Grip, 2006; i). Likewise, this problem is poorly understood by many as there is this misconception that homosexual males are using methamphetamine solely for sex (Bruce et al, 2008).

Though it is not denied that there is an ounce of truth in this perception but to remove it from the context, condition, and the lived lives of homosexual males who are into methamphetamine is already a possible misconstrued picture of the real story.
