This report has considered focusing on the Plastic Surgery Institute of Miami. The institute has earned a reputation of paying close attention to the its clients and has endeavored to provide a state of art surgery to the clients which by all means is the chief attribute that clients always seek. Plastic Surgery Institute of Miami has invested their resources, facilities and technological expertise to provide the best services to their clients which reduces the rates of dissatisfactions after the surgery. Breast augmentation in Plastic Surgery Institute of Miami has been given much emphasis in the Plastic Surgery Institute of Miami despite the many challenges faced by ladies wishing to augment their breast. Dissatisfaction after surgery is caused by unqualified physicians leading to unexpected results such as breasts too small, too large, nipples facing upwards, scars etc. The solution of these problems may include using qualified doctors and efficient equipment. 1.0 Introduction 1.1 Purpose The purpose of this report is to analyze the breast augmentation procedure with an aim of identifying the problems experienced with the breast enhancement and consequently, provide better suggestion on how the problems can be solved. 1.2 Scope While investigating the procedure of breast augmentation and the problems experienced during and after surgery, it is important to consider the qualifications of the doctor preforming the surgery, the effectiveness of the facilities used, the expectations of the patient and the ideal look. 1.3 Method The information used in this report was gathered by reviewing the literature published by Lana Thompson in her book Plastic surgery. Further information was gathered by contacting information about people who have undergone dissatisfying surgery to gain additional insights into the procedure. 1.4 Limitation Credible information on people who have undergone dissatisfying surgery is difficult to find since people often deny having gone through the procedure. 1.5 Background Founded in 1984 by Dr. Thomas J Zaydon, M.D, the Plastic Surgery Institute of Miami has earned reputation of paying close attention to its clients. The institution has endeavored to provide a state of art surgery to the clients which by all means are the chief attributes that clients always seek. It is an obvious understanding that there is a lot of physical and emotional pain that always affects the clients whenever procedures go wrong and in any way result to deformity. (Thompson, Lana, p34).This is always true particularly when such problems are experienced with breast surgery. It is clearer that breast augmentation procedure has gained a lot of popularity overtime. But at some points, patients get dissatisfied with the outcome of the surgery due to involvement of less experienced individuals. Even with the success of the Plastic Surgery Institute of Miami in providing successful cosmetic breast surgery, the industry is characterized by heated negative perception of failed surgeries. 2. Analysis 2.1 History of breast augmentation procedure Prior to 1950s plastic surgery was only accepted to remedy the breast through surgical reconstruction. After 1950s, the ideal female body type was shaped by big-breasted models such as Marilyn Monroe, Anita Ekberg, Jayne Mansfield and Gina Lollobrigida (Thompson, Lana, p 56). Females started wearing pushup bras to enlarge their breast size to match that of the models that were all big- breasted and made the nipple to look sharp and pointed. With time, more and more females wanted their breast enlarged and nipples pointed which prompted plastic surgeons to embrace cosmetic breast enlargement. Early implants were made from Ivalon and fat grafts, Polistan, Etheron and Hydron which had numerous side effects such as hardening and infiltration which led to growth of sponge pores in the breast. New technologies have since been used and more plastic surgery clinics been opened due to the escalating demand for plastic surgery to enhance breast size. 2 million breast implants had already been done by 1990. Due to increased demand for this service, challenges came with getting the best expert to perform the surgery to specification. Today, people continue to experience the problems associated with breast enhancements especially due to the incompetent plastic surgeons (Thompson, Lana, p 58). 2.2 Rationale for breast augmentation Females looking for reconstruction of their breast have expectations of the results they which to achieve. Most importantly, the celebrities are the common clients of plastic surgeons who wish to correct some aspects of their bodies which they do not think appears as ideal as they would which to. This is done in order to enhance their beauty in physical appearance which in turn boosts their happiness and self-confidence. Most people who prefer plastic surgery are the famous people whose identities are shaped by what appears of them in the cameras; as such they would go to greater lengths to maintain their appearances. Breasts augment is done purposely to increase the size of the breast and shape is so that they look like they are facing upwards and nipples pointed. Another reason for performing the breast enhancement is to restore the size and shape of the breasts after losing weight or child birth so that the beauty is not lost. For child birth and with loss, apart from enlargement, lifting is also prioritized. There are other women who are interested in proportioning their breasts where one is bigger than the other (Thompson, Lana, p 30). 2.3 Risks Breast augment is a procedure which is characterized by a high rate of risk. The level of success is highly influenced by the qualifications of the plastic surgeon and the effectiveness of the equipment and facilities which are used in the procedure. Failure to meet the proper preconditions of the operation can cause failure of the plastic surgery. Another risk is associated with the biological makeup of a person. Even with the most effective facilities and qualifies plastic surgeon, the operation can fail to result to preferred results due to the biological makeup of a person which become incompatible with the implants. After the operations, there are other risks involved which can result into health issues. This is because the process does not inhibit future changes cause by pregnancies, gravity and weight loss which will require additional surgeries. Furthermore, future surgeries are expected to be performed especially since the saline implants which is commonly used has a rapture rate of 1 out of 100 annually (Vasconez and Habash 1120). This leads to more surgeries to rectify leaking, raptured or wrinkled breasts. The surgery may have permanent scars which they leave on the skin and may get exaggerate as time goes on. A person also needs regular checkups after the surgery to ensure that the tissues are healthy. Furthermore, insurance cover does not allow covering of conditions resulting from breast implants. Such risks are very common in this practice. However, Plastic Surgery Institute of Miami has invested heavily in training of surgeons and improvement of facilities to prevent the occurrence of such risks. 2.4 Possible Causes of Dissatisfaction Dissatisfaction of people who have undergone through this procedure can occur due to several reasons. Dissatisfaction and risks are directly related where a person gets the results which are contrary to their expatiations. This is mostly attributes to lack of qualified plastic surgery. This results in breasts being too small or too large than expected. The risks and chances of dissatisfaction are very common where two procedures are done at the same time; such as breast enlargement and lifting. Some causes of dissatisfaction include; Risk of breast cancer; this procedure can trigger development of cancer and that is why it is recommended that those who have undergone through the procedure to take cancer screening regularly since the implants inhibit early detection of cancer cells. Capsular contracture; occurs when body tissues around the breasts harden and squeeze the implant altering the shape of the breasts. Possible loss of nerve feelings on the nipple due to damaged tissues. The two breasts can result in different sizes where one is bigger than the other. Furthermore, the size of the breasts can be very small or very large than expected. The breasts can change if not done properly as a result of damage or engagement with normal activities. Such changes include rapture, deflation, wrinkling, development of ripples, or hardening. Scars are another cause of dissatisfaction. Effective procedures results in scarless skin after healing but unsuccessful ones leave marks on the skin which makes it obvious that the breasts are unnatural. The height of the breast; even though a lift can raise the position of the nipple, it is not able to inframammary crease such that women with a low crease continue to face this problem. High nipples; high nipples look very unnatural since they do not fall with gravity like the breasts and thus they cannot be modified. In the figure below, the nipples face upwards which makes them look very unnatural and lead to undesirable looks. 2.5 Solution to the challenges Since female’s breasts continue to develop until they are past 18 years or 20 years, young females should be discouraged from undergoing breasts augment since normal development of the breasts can cause raptures, leakage or shrinking after the operation. Examining the qualifications of the doctor in charge of breast enhancement as a way of changing the image. Establishing the expectation of the clients based on what they view as the ideal look. Establishing the effect the equipment in the facility has in failing to correct the problem. Performance of medical evaluation before the surgery to ensure that the patient and the implants are compatible so as to prevent negative biological reactions. Performance of regular breast screening for cancer in order to avoid development of cancerous cells in the breasts. 3. Conclusion After investigation into the procedure of breast augmentation, it has been noted that this procedure has gained much popularity with more women everyday wishing to have their breasts enlarged. However, the procedure is very risky when done by unqualified physicians and faulty or non-standard facilities. The industry has continued to face negative criticism from the public due to many instances of failed plastic surgeries. This is despite the measures and mechanisms put forward by Plastic Surgery Institute of Miami to offer high quality and successful plastic surgery and specifically breast augment. The Plastic Surgery Institute of Miami has reported high levels of success in breast augment with the many patients who have performed their surgeries there being very satisfied with the outcomes. The qualified physician ensures that the clients get their ideal appearances and the chances of risks are minimized significantly. The institute also offers follows ups to its clients to ensure that threats of failure are detected early. Most importantly, their facilities are state of the art which enables them to offer the best services to their clients without posing any dangers to standards or quality of the surgery. 4. Recommendations The analysis of the above literature in this report support the recommendations presented below: The increasing demand for breast augment requires establishment of credible institutions which handle the cases to get rid of the bad reputation of failed procedures. The Plastic Surgery Institute of Miami satisfies the criteria developed in the scope of this report since it has qualified plastic surgeons, qualified equipment and they also attempt to reconcile the expectations of the clients with the ideal. Risks and challenges involved in plastic surgery can be mitigated by making sure that the surgeon one choses for the procedure is qualified and certified to perform the procedure since a large percentage of failures in the procedure results from unqualified physicians. Medical examination should be performed before undergoing the procedure in order to establish the levels of success and establish the feasibility of the procedure. Regular check-ups should be prioritized to remedy any instances of leakage, change in shape, rapture, inflammation or change in sizes of the breast due to shrinking. The Plastic Surgery Institute of Miami should be embraced to perform the breast augment procedures due to their qualifications, reputation and credibility. This way, the negative attributes associated with this procedure will be history. Works Cited Thompson, Lana. Plastic surgery. Santa Barbara, Calif.: Greenwood, 2012. Print. Vasconez HC, Habash A.
