?Historical Analogy –September 11 attack and death of Osama Bin Laden Introduction The terrorist attack which took place in America on September 11thof 2001 can be deemed as one of the most infamous historical event in 21st century. This terrorist attack has shaken the world by storm. The number of people died and the catastrophe it caused can hardly be undermined. The most astonishing aspect was the revelation of Al Qaeda leader, Osama bin Laden that the attack was a master plan carried out by them. America being a super power nation felt weakened during this time and for sometime the Islamic extremist looked like a devil that could dwindles the world peace and harmony. According to (A& E television,2001) “On September 11, 2001, at 8:45 a.m. on a clear Tuesday morning, an American Airlines Boeing 767 loaded with 20,000 gallons of jet fuel crashed into the north tower of the World Trade Center in New York City”. The terrorist attack was carried out by the Al – Qaeda militant head Osama bin Laden and it gave rise to harsh rivalry between America and Islamic radical group. Since then the most mind boggling historical event was the killing of Osama bin Laden by American militants. The radical leader who swayed American government and security of the nation was killed in a remote Pakistani residence. The terrorist leader was killed and submerged in the sea by the American government and this was a pivotal achievement for the American government. The terrorist attack on World Trade Centre was a moment of threat, danger and insecurity for America but with the killing of Osama bin laden, the country gained the confidence and approval of its citizen. Fear of attack The America in its history has never undergone such an attack where the nation lost many of its citizen and right of freedom to act or survive in a peaceful environment. The country was living in fear as the reality was frightening where anytime one could face death or injury without short notice. The smell of death was everywhere, people were scared to step out of house or attend work. They believed and were alerted that any unknown baggage or suspicious man could be a radical element which could denote bomb or explosive. Frankly speaking, America was a safe country and every citizen had the right to live in a peaceful environment. However, with this attack, the country was the least secure nation as the radical elements seared to destroy the nation at any cost. At the same time, the Islamic militants were rejoicing at their success of mutilating America. They believed the culture and strategy of America were to destroy other nation and Islam as the only true religion should abolish Christianity and their cultural practice. The Al – Qaeda which was formulated by Osama bin Laden for the protection of Muslims under attack by America grew to be a large organization which had branches worldwide. They trained suicide bombers and convinced them to fight for the religion. The rigorous religious practice and training give way to September 11 attack which gave joy and success to Osama led Al Qaeda group. According to (Baldor,2013) “U.S. special operations forces who participated in the raid that killed Osama bin Laden were in uniform and wearing nametags during a CIA award ceremony attended by the writer of the film "Zero Dark Thirty," a Pentagon inspector general's report said Friday” The politics of the event Everybody knows that America as a powerful nation want all countries at their feet. The country had been enemy to many developing nation s as they ruled according to their will and wants their counterparts at their subjugation. The country had a major hand in attacking Afghanis along with Russia. The Osama bin laden has many times confessed that this union of America with Russia has sparked vengeance in him against America. He declared that the Saudi chose him to be a representative to fight against atheist America and Russia. It is a fact that Russians and America as westerners wanted to destroy the solidarity and unity of the growing Islamic brothers. They found Islam as a threat as it was a powerful and the second largest religion in the world. Osama bin laden is indeed a terrorist in the minds of Westerners but for Islamic brothers he was a savior. Being a millionaire, he took the form of a protector for the Muslim population. He contributed much of his wealth for the defense of Afghan and Sudan. He himself have undergone and suffered the perils of the war and assured peace and protection for the Muslim brothers who was in despair due to the scorching rivalry of the westerners on them. Osama bin laden was not a name but a religious institution for Muslims. He built an entire empire of defense for protecting Islamic countries. He was an angel for Muslims while he was the worst enemy for America. According to (Sceheur,2006,pg.24) ‘The forces of Bin laden, then , are waging, war on America in God’s name: they have made it clear that their goal is not the tactical one of inflicting pain, but the strategic one of defeating the United States”. The Bush versus Osama bin laden It was during the presidency of George Bush that the September 11 attack happened on world trade centre. This has definitely left a deep scar on the American government and stamped them as a nation no longer free to live . The country got the results for its malicious deeds during the past and this definitely shook the presiding power of Bush. The security of the nation was tampered and the country was tantalized on political and economical basis. Bush declared Osama as a national threat and the most wanted criminal of all time. It is ironical that an American educated person like Osama would endanger the national security and freedom to live. Bush was all set to hunt bin laden and bring a cessation to his terrorism acts. Osama on the other hand was supported by the whole Muslim world and rich nation like Saudi and other gulf nations supported him in disguise. He was their savior and representative of God, who fought for the rights of Muslims and their security. Osama declared Bush led American government as number one threat to his religious and moral principles. Osama has been encouraging; the Muslim brotherhood to come forward and be Jihadist .He was calling upon holy war wherein hundreds of Muslim men came forward to sacrifice their lives in favor of their religion. “Essentially Jihad is an effort to practice religion in the face of oppression and persecution”. Conclusion America is a powerful nation and any threat to the country from internal or external source is considered as a social evil. America has been facing threat from Islam since long time and the country has waged war with Afghan and Sudan in an attempt to destabilize their unity. America very well knows that oil producing gulf nations are a threat to them and any critical threat from Muslims were taken seriously by the American government. Surprisingly, the horrifying attack by al – Qaeda on America shook the country and they were puzzled by the mighty and power of the radical to wage a war on America, which is the super power nation for the rest of the world. For America, Muslims became a threat in a political, economical and religious manner. America is indeed strong in terms of economy and military infrastructure, but the power and mystery of Al – Qaeda was at large. It is ironical that, these radical elements were mushrooming under the very rule of Western world and less could be done to detect them or dismantle them. The rigorous attempt of American to destroy Al- Qaeda by waging war on Afghanistan could do very less to kill Osama. It was a shame on the super power nation to look like a feeble country which could not even destroy the minor group of Islamist operated under the hands of Osama bin laden and his assistants. Even though America’s national security was at stake, the country had to spend millions on military and had to sacrifice numerous militants to eventually destroy Osama – bin Laden.
