The Taliban according to the US intelligence reports are categorized as terrorist group together with Al-Qaeda and Tamil Tigers. Most of the Taliban policies are based on Islamization ideology, social policy and entertainment. The Taliban group should be negotiated with because of the following reasons: It will be having respect to the international law that stipulates dialogue. The Taliban group protects the rights of the Muslim youth Through negotiations incidences of retaliatory attacks are minimized It reduces the occurrence of suicide attacks on the people associated with the USA. Peace will be promoted in the regions that are mostly controlled by the Taliban group influences. There is development of the economy due to safe environment for doing business. On the contrary the Taliban organization should not be given chance for negotiations by the US because: There are linked to terrorist activities hence perpetrators of violence. Deterioration of the security levels due to proliferation of illegal fire arms and other dangerous weapons. Taliban promote religious extremism in their strong hold areas. Commit crimes against humanity by suppressing girls’ and women’s rights Violation of the children rights by recruiting child soldiers to fight in their wars. Retard growth and development of the economy They engage in drug trade and piracy in order to fund their activities. Discussion Having respect to international law promotes dialogue between conflicting parties. This is because it provides restrain to direct war particularly when explaining a demarche for the hostility parties and or the interned civilians. The regulations are not to be dissolved regardless of the occurrence of any event. With the US being a great ambassador of global peace the law guarantees protection of the human rights as envisaged in the International Humanitarian Law.i Protect the religious rights of the Muslim youth as they make majority of the areas controlled by the Taliban. Since most of the tribal areas are controlled by the Taliban, Muslim religious rights are protected. The conservative nature of the Taliban has made great strides in proclaiming the importance of Muslim religion to the youth. This prevents them from engaging in activities that will erode their social fabric.ii The incidences of attacks and retaliatory attacks are reduced because all parties are adhering to a common course. Since there is no invasion there will be no need for counter attacks. This is only possible if the affected parties loosen their stands and allow negotiations to occur. This promotes economic growth, education, democracy, development and rights centered on people. iii Negotiations promote peace among people of separate ideas hence fostering economic and social development. Language and communication are important in conflict resolution as the goal of communication is mutual agreement. Conflict emanates from pursuit of incompatible interests and goals by different groups and they are only resolved through negotiations.iv Development of the economy is of great value if the public is involved in negotiations. The interest groups should ensure common goal of economic development is achieved through democratic participatory governance. A developing economy is bound to be free from conflict. v The Taliban should not be negotiated with as they are perpetrators of terrorism. The terrorist activities amount to loss of millions of innocent lives. Just like the 9/11 tragedy where many innocent Americans lot their loved ones. Conflict ensued when the US military invaded Afghanistan and Pakistan to flush the out terrorist groups. This led to the declaration of Global War on Terrorism.vi This action blocked the air tube to terror bases of Taliban. Children’s rights are violated by being taken as child soldiers as right wing supporters of the Taliban regime have been used to fight in their military wing. This denies the young minds the right to education and also it leads to psychological trauma.vii Deterioration of security since the Taliban regime hosted the AI-Qaeda a terrorist group responsible for the 9/11 bombing of the World Trade centre in New York. The regular strikes made by the terrorist’s organizations have led to high insecurity levels to countries affiliated to the US. Some sectarian groups also indulged in armed and terrorist activities against their rival groups bringing fear and terror in the society.viii Engaging in drug trade so as finance their activities is one the reasons that the Taliban should never be negotiated with since they are both terrorist group and drug cartel. In Afghanistan opium is available due to the Taliban regime. They engage in human trafficking and money laundering activities. After the Taliban regime the cache of drugs reduced to 2%. ix The human rights are at stake each time war erupts between the insurgents and the peace keeping forces. Due to the hard lined stands proclaimed by Taliban education for women and girls is crumbling. The Taliban have an edict that women should not be educated. This has led to the many areas that had formal efforts to educate women and girls to crumble due to the threats made by insurgents.x Since neither religion nor logic could persuade them to abandon their oppressing and inhumane attitudes. The way the Taliban carry out their governance procedures casts a dark shadow on the rights of women and girls. Their policy about women has attracted negative criticisms because they have instituted a policy based on a mixture of Deobandi teachings and traditional Pushtunwali conceptions of a woman’s place in the societal ranking. xi The Taliban have made the role of women and status a cornerstone of their Islamization program. According to Goodson women have virtually been eliminated from public limelight and restricted from working outside home and are also forbidden to appear in public places without covering their bodies from head to toe. The issue of girls attending schools is not welcomed by the Taliban and therefore the even the coeducational facilities attendance is forbidden. The only education they support is the one provide in major schools of doctrine of Islamic law.xii The cases of women being beaten for appearing in public without covering their faces are common in Kabul where the Taliban influence is strongest. Due to this extreme levels of oppression the omen have been denied political representation so as to appeal for their mistreatment by the Taliban regime. These cases of molestation of women when bad comes to worse rape incidences are reported. Access to medical care has also been denied. The banning of women from working has had negative ramifications on their standards of living. This has led to surge in prostitution as they try to raise income for their families. According to Goodson lack of proper medical care has led to drastic fall in the life expectancy of women at 43-44 years old almost twenty year less than the average for developing countries on contrary they exhibit the highest levels of infant mortality rates. The Taliban social policy is based on the interpretation of the Sharia law. Their discriminatory policy targets the urbane minority residents. Most of them have mysteriously disappeared without trace after being rounded up by the Taliban.xiii The growth and development of infrastructure, public health and education have virtually been disregarded and only rely on outside sources and organizations for assistance. There has been inadequate infrastructure reconstruction as the areas affected by war have no electricity, unsafe drinking water and degraded roads. The banning of education has indirectly robbed the nation otherwise to be great leaders of the nation as the high illiteracy levels fan the activities of the Taliban.xiv Conclusion In summary the Taliban should not consulted with since they commit more atrocities than good to the society. Their conservative ideologies have equally no place in today’s world since every person has an equal chance in life irrespective of their gender. The imposition of the traditional laws and practices to relegate the women to the periphery on decision making only amounts to crime as the women are denied their chance to express themselves. Most of the activities carried out by the Taliban are criminal in nature as per the international laws. Rape cases, promotion of human trafficking, participating in drug trade, skewed religious teachings and terrorism that leads to mass murder of innocent people are all punishable by any law. Any criminal gangs must be eliminated for the well being of the society. The male chauvinism should be discouraged as it deprives off other people their basic human rights. Girls have also been denied their right to education and women molested at the expense of this vice. Access to proper medical care is limited as they always live in fear restriction to movement. High illiteracy levels leads to high rates of unemployment which is a threat to national security. Therefore the Taliban should never be negotiated by the US. The Global War on terrorism is code that all countries that are in support of eliminating terrorist activities of the many terrorist groups that commit crime against humanity.
