Forgotten War - America in Korea - Personal Statement Example

Hence there was no finality in the war. Though there were more than 50,000 American troops stationed in the peninsula, there were no military killings, propaganda warfare, sabotage, paranoia, or incursions. Another valid reason that made experts regard the war as 'forgotten' was the non-inclusion of Korea in the American Foreign Policy during the Cold War.

One of the obvious reasons was that most of the Americans had very little knowledge about this war, even though many of them were adults during the war years. Another reason is that the Korean War was barely a part of the history subject in most of the elementary and high schools and also in colleges. In case they have mentioned it in the educational texts, the entire conflict was not covered, instead of a brief mention about the conflict, which often described it as the successful containment of communism by the United Nations and the United States that resulted in freedom for South Koreans. These brief mentions removed a great deal about the painful episode that piloted the Cold War era and the enormous significance it has had, and still has, for Koreans, Americans, and world history.
