Introduction In today’s world, economy of most of the countries is facing downfall, which is creating adverse affects on the living conditions of the people belonging to those countries. One of the major consequences of economic downfall is increase in the rate of unemployment, which causes people migrate to financially stable countries to find jobs. The dilemma is that some people who are either not well educated or do not possess a good character are not able to get permission to enter some other country.

Such people use illegal ways to for migration. Most of the people belonging to this category do not find employment even in financially stable countries and get involved in illegal activities, such as, robbery and drug trafficking for earning money. The thesis statement for this paper is that the government of the United States needs to take effective steps to control illegal immigration because it is creating critical problems for the country.Effects of Illegal Immigration and Control MechanismsRise in the graph of illegal immigrations also raise the number of crimes.

“In 1991, immigration offenses made up 7 percent of all federal convictions, and by 2007, immigration offenses represented nearly 25 percent of federal convictions” (Hensley). Increase is the number of crimes is one of the major drawbacks associated with illegal immigrations. Some immigrants come to the United States specifically with the intention to destabilize the peace of the society whereas some immigrants start doing criminal activities when they do not find jobs or any kind of work in the countries where they migrate.

However, people should not think negative of all immigrants because nature and activities of every person are not the same. It is only a small number of immigrants who are actually involved in criminal activities. Some reports say that 12 to 15 percent of immigrants become involved in illegal activities. Drug trafficking, is also one of the most critical issues associated with large-scale immigrations to the United States of America. Go states, “The US suffers an annual loss of about 70 billion dollars due to drug-related illnesses, death, and drug related crimes”.

Drug trafficking is a business which earns a lot of money not only to the drug dealers but also to all other people involved in this business. Researches show that approximately 13.2 million illegal immigrants living in the United States are Mexican-Americans and a large number of them are drug dealers. Illegal immigrants come to the United States to earn good money but due to lack of documents, they fail to get jobs and get involved in drug trafficking. “Many are simply coming to the United States to look for work but are accosted, and they become subjects of the drug cartels” (CNN Wire Staff).

Here, we must say that it is just a small percentage of the illegal immigrants become victims to drug dealers. Most of the immigrants are hardworking and careful individuals who obey the social, political, and labor laws and regulations of the foreign countries. Reports confirm that U.S. GDP may increase by 0.75 percent annually due to large-scale immigrations. “Immigrants bring innovative ideas and entrepreneurial spirit to the U.S. economy” (Griswold). Apart from the positive and negative aspects of illegal immigrants, the government of America needs to maintain a proper check on the activities of all immigrants.

Moreover, the border control mechanisms should also be improved in order to stop people from entering the country illegally. The American government needs to use new virtual fence technology to create a fence along sections of the Mexican border in order to stop drug dealers from entering the United States illegally.ConclusionSumming it up, illegal immigration causes many problems for the United States of America, such as, increase in the number of crimes, increase in violence, law breaking, and drug trafficking.

Therefore, the government of the United States of America needs to take effective steps to control illegal immigration because it is creating a number of critical problems for the country.Works CitedCNN Wire Staff. “Arizona's Brewer: Most illegal immigrants are 'drug mules'.” Cnn.com, 25 Jun. 2010.
