It is one of those departments that are often underestimated as owners and employees fail to recognize its value. The Human Resource Management department is responsible for multiple important tasks in a company. If the tasks of the HR department were to be divided broadly into three main parts then firstly its responsibility is to keep the work environment healthy, it manages disputes by finding suitable solutions to them, they take timely actions which prevents matters going out of hand thus help create a friendly work environment among employees. Secondly it also looks over that people working in the organization are in the right job, this part of HR’s job includes hiring the right people for the job and also the firing process of any organization. Thirdly it also helps employees in upgrading their skills when necessary, this step involves training of employees. Human Resource Department’s most important task will probably be creating a work friendly environment in an organization. Sometimes the Human Resource Department plays in active role in making business and marketing plans. (Benefits of Human Resource Management). Another big highlight to this department is it takes off the responsibility of hiring new employees off the shoulders of the owners and the management. In this the management and the owners will be able to focus more on their core issue than to the process of hiring new employees which in turn will affect the productivity of the organization. HRM takes care of finding appropriate employees and hiring them. The owners now do not that the headache of searching for employees, checking their legality or holding interviews. It not only helps in hiring employees it also helps in training the existing employees which increases the efficiency of the current employees. Another important function of HR is to come up with pamphlets about company’s policies which contain texts regarding issues like sexual harassment, employees dating or discrimination. Such kind of information if is conveyed to the employees helps prevent any unseen undesirable events that may risk the reputation of the company. Downside to Human Resource Management Although human resource management may prove to be a very important department in a firm or any organizations it comes hand in hand with a few downsides. It is mainly because human resource management departments usually use electronic management systems that increase the risk of pitfalls. One of the chief disadvantages of Human Resource Management is compromised security. There is an increased capacity of breaches in the private information of employees, business officials and management. Virtual media has also proved to be very vulnerable to viruses that put your data stored to risk that may lead to your human resource department to be disabled. Another pitfall of human resource management may include user errors that are the inaccuracy of data entry which may lead up to errors in the HR mater file. (Reynolds). Although this department proves to be an essential part the cost related to it becomes a downside to the whole idea. Starting a whole department leads to the organization bearing high costs that may include salary or workers that may work in the department and other investment in capital. In the article the author talks about the start up cost that may be needed to start a Human Rrsource Management department and he rounds it off to $50,000 accordingly to CostOwl.com. (Johnston). In the article ‘Advantages & Disadvantages of Not Having Human Resources’ the author Chris Miksen talks about the statistic from Human Resource Executive Online which quotes the cost per employee as $1,569 in 2009. (Miksen). This sums up the downside of setting up a Human Resource Manegement Department, something the owners of any organizaton must think through before they decide to set up thi sdepartment. Conclusion Any organization that would lack Human Resource Management Department is bound to suffer a great deal in managing regular activities. Despite all the pitfalls connected to the Human Resource Management Department the advantages an organization faces when it steps up this department are really huge. Which tend to over shadow all disadvantages that may be connected to Human Resource Management.
