Information Technology Affiliation: Selyukh, A. & Nayak, M. January 30th). AT&T top buyer at U.S. airwaves auction; Dish spends big. Reuters. Retrieved from: http://www.reuters.com/article/2015/01/30/us-usa- spectrum-wireless-idUSKBN0L325320150130 The article discusses about the enormous amount of money AT&T spent on the bid for a license from FCC on sale of mobile data airwaves. The company spent $ 18 billion on the bid which enabled it to win the license ahead of its other competitors such as DISH and Verizon which took the second and third position respectively. The license is a guarantee to satisfy the ever growing demand for consumers to stream video and other content which requires large amount of data The information by the author of the article has been retrieved from different sources. The general information indicating the results from the bid by the FCC was got from the FCC itself which validates it as being genuine. The other information is based on opinion from different analysts in the wireless communication network field and experts from various technology firms. An increase in the airwaves of mobile data means an expansion in the wireless communication field. Such a license to the AT&T will enables faster and continuous data streaming and faster downloads to the consumers. Many people are now bound to shift to the company due to its acquisition of a license which has immense significance. With the company bound to get an increase in its customer base due to the license acquisition from FCC, I would definitely like to be part of the group which will benefit financially and not as a customer but as a shareholder. I would definitely purchase the stocks from the company and do so immediately due to competition. Singer, N. (2015, January 28th). Regulators Crack Down on Marketers of ‘Unlimited’ Data Plans. The New York Times. Retrieved from: http://bits.blogs.nytimes.com/2015/01/28/regulators-crack-down-on-marketers-of- unlimited-data-plans/ The article discusses an increase in lies from the mobile phone providers when it comes to the issue of unlimited data. The latest culprit to be hunted down by the federal authorities is TrackFone Wireless which has been fined $40 million as a result of getting involved in the scheme. The scheme known as “throttling” involves announcing unlimited data for the consumers only for the data speed to reduce once a certain data usage limit is reached. The author retrieved this information from the Federal Trade Commission which announced about the fine and the throttling scheme. The other valid source is the TracFone Company which responded to the questions from the media through email. The two sources of information are not only verified to be credible but are valid as well and hence the information by the author can be taken as the truth. The throttling scheme is a really bad move for the people working in the mobile provider industry or those wishing to engage in the business of supplying data to the people through private means. With such information going public, consumers are bound to become untrustworthy and this only spells doom to not only the industry but to me as well as my dreams is now cracked. The article has made me now start considering other opportunities to invest my resources both financial and human capital in. I have however learnt to start seeking laws which are present in any technology venture I might decide to take upon. Oreskovic, A. (2014, October 16th). Google Fiber going wireless? Signs indicate yes for a test. Chicago Tribune. Retrieved from: http://www.chicagotribune.com/bluesky/technology/sns-rt-us-google-wireless-20141015- story.html The wireless communication field has for a long time been dominated by a few companies while the rest still deal with fiber communication. Google has decided to venture into the wireless communication in addition to it using fiber for such a long time. The internet giant has made necessary applications to the FCC (Federal Communications Commission) in line with the laws and regulations of the government. The approval will mean a possible wireless extension of their signature fiber network and intense competition to Verizon and AT&T. The information by the author is public knowledge and it was released by one of the telecommunication experts who made the fillings to the FCC. The move was however highly unnoticed by many individual. The article also engages the opinion of a wireless engineer and a consultant whose work is to monitor filings made in FCC about wireless networks. The information was however not formally verified by the said company Google and news about the same is still being awaited. Google is the leading internet giant worldwide even though it has only been using fiber network technology. With its incorporation of wireless networking technology, its users are bound to increase even further. The working opportunities in the company for specialists in wireless technology field will open up which mean I may have an opportunity for working for Google. The rest of the wireless companies will have increased steep competition which is good for the industry. I would not only seek employment opportunity in this company once the request goes through but would also start preparing cash to purchase stock as soon as this happens. This is bound to be one of the best investment opportunities and I plan on maximizing on it. Fung, B. (2014, June 12th). FCC unveils ‘new regulatory paradigm’ for defeating hackers. The Washington Post. Retrieved from: http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/the- switch/wp/2014/06/12/fcc-chair-telecom-companies-must-do-more-to-defend-against- hackers/ Wireless telecommunications firms have been for a long time fighting an unending war of cyber-attacks. Hackers have not only been on the increase but have redeveloped their hacking skills defeating all technological barriers to stop them. The FCC has however been working with other federal agencies and wireless telecommunications companies to try a new paradigm bound to protect them from hackers. The paradigm includes notifying others and government on the attacks as well as develop market accountability among many other strategies in the paradigm. The information by the author about the new paradigm was released by the FCC chairman and this makes the information not only valid but verifiable. Information coming directly from the source which has the authority to provide the information and is reliable provides for reliable and valid information. With reduction of hackers or even prevention of their illicit skills being enforced, the information and technology industry will be much more secure. People including me are relieved to learn that their privacy will be obeyed and will also not have trouble securing the privacy of the information of others. I definitely support this regulation and the laws that will follow the regulation by the FCC. This is a move that will curtail the activities of many hackers while protecting the information of the citizens and both will be done simultaneously. Tencer, D. (2013, November 22nd). Wireless Competition in Canada: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. The Huffington Post. Retrieved from: http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/2013/11/22/wireless-competition-canada_n_4319153.html The article discusses how wireless companies in Canada have been duping people as well as overcharging them while the services they are providing are among the worse. Complaints have been launched by the citizens who are not only angered by the wireless technology firms but are contemplating leaving the wireless connectivity and resuming to the archaic technologies. There is increased threat of extinction in the extreme end. If there is collapse of the small players, then the prices are bound to increase even further than they currently are. The information by the author is based on research from the general public directly whose opinion has been compiled into the article. Further information and confirmation of the trending thread is from a research analyst who has been studying the wireless technology trend for years and hence has a lot of knowledge on the issue at hand. The sources are not verifiable and hence not completely valid. The Canada wireless technology market is not looking good and has a very thin thread holding it together. If the current trend in the wireless technology of offering poor services at a high cost are not addressed, then the industry is bound to collapse while that of the rest of the world is on the increase and at a very high pace for that matter. I would definitely not want a job in an industry that is on the verge of collapse as it is a career suicide. However, the government needs to regulate the industry and control the market share if it is to save the collapsing industry and catch up with the rest of the wireless network giants around the world.
