Generation WTF: This article talks of the challenges and problems that people of ages 20-25 pass through. The authors of this article are very categorical that these adults are always optimistic about a positive future, only to be disappointed later on. For instance, upon graduation, this people do not have money, and this is partly because they are unable to find a good job that will take care of their needs. Whelan (7) further denotes that majority of these people are unable to earn more than 75,000 dollars a year. This figure is the amount of money that young adults seek to earn by the time they reach the age of thirty years. However, they give a much lower figure of 27,000 dollars a year. On this basis therefore, the optimism of people under this age bracket is replaced by signs of sadness, and depression. To correct these misconceptions, the authors denote that these people need to be wise, tenacious and fearless, for them to make an impact in the society. I completely agree with the claims contained the article. In my own opinion, majority of people under this age bracket are not able to fulfill their ambitions because of the structure of the economy, government policies, and fierce competition on the available scarce resources. For example, when these people graduate from their colleges, most organizations want to hire people who are highly experienced. On this basis, these young adults will miss on the opportunity of acquiring the job under consideration. This will force them to look for alternative sources of employment, which do not earn them as much money as they would like to earn. On this basis, these young adults are unable to meet their target of making 75,000 dollars per year before reaching the ages of 30 years. The structure of the economy also plays a great role in affecting the ability of these people to achieve their goals, and thereafter fulfill their ambitions. For example, the capitalistic structure of the economy only favors the rich (Whelan, 11). Capitalism is about accumulation of resources, and it involves capital. If an individual cannot get access to capital, then he or she can not engage in business activities in a capitalistic state. Bank on the other hand will be reluctant to give credit to these people, because of uncertainties on their ability to repay back the loans. These people are always optimistic about the future, because of their parents and teachers. Parents usually encourage them on while they are young on the importance of working hard in school, and on the available resources they will enjoy after finishing school. However, their parents do not tell them that these resources are scarce, and there is fierce competition for purposes of accessing these resources. After graduating from school, and realizing that these resources are scarce, that is when these people became sad, and some develop depression. On this basis, I completely agree with the assertions of Whelan (4) that these people are always optimistic, but later on become disappointed because they are unable to achieve their expectations, and goals. The author of this article proposes a solution that these young adults need to be wise, tenacious and fearless. For them to succeed therefore, they should be under the guidance of purposes and hope. Whelan (12) denotes that for these people to be wise, they have to identify what drives them, and in which direction they want to go. These young adults must also identify the meaning behind the choices that they make, and they must portray honesty about their feelings. In my own opinion, wisdom is an important element in an individual’s life. Without wisdom, a person is bound to make wrong choices in life. These wrong choices might lead to the destruction of the person under consideration. In my own opinion therefore, I agree with the assertions that these young adults must review the choices they make, and identify the meaning behind those choices. These will therefore help them to make choices that will help in advancing their careers and achieving their goals. Whelan (6) further goes on to denote that for these young adults to portray tenacious characteristics, they have to set smart goals, identify the tricks that better helps them to achieve their goals, and they should find ways of breaking the procrastination cycle. Whelan (7) denotes that fearlessness encompasses being empowered to make wise decisions about money, avoiding arguments, and strengthening of relationships between the community, friends and the family. In my own opinion, I agree with the authors on the need of these young adults to strengthen their relationships with the family, the community and friends. This is because we live in a world where we cannot succeed by ourselves. We need people to connect us on the available opportunities, and to advice us on how we need to handle certain difficult situations. Young adults are so inexperienced about life issues, and they therefore need the guidance of their family members on the appropriate choices to make concerning their lives. On this basis, the authors of the article are right when they assert that these people need to be tenacious. However, there are some allegations that these article make in which I am not in agreement with. For instance, the authors of this article assert that over the years, Americans believed that their economy will never face a recession. This assertion is not true because the American economy has faced numerous recessions before reaching where it is today. For instance, between the periods 1929-1941 is known as the great depression under the American economic calendar. This period saw a fall in employments, taxes, and the collapse of most business organizations. During the periods of 1970s, there was an oil crisis, with the Gulf states hoarding oil. This had an impact on the American economy, because of insufficient energy to drive its growth. The assertion by the authors that Americans only thought of a growth in their economy is false and untrue. There is also another article that caught my eye, which is an article on purpose. From this article, we find that without purpose, an individual will lack motivation and ambition (Whelan, 17). This statement is accurate and correct. In my own opinion, purpose is what makes an individual to strive into achieving a certain objective. For example, if I purpose to be a famous actor. I will work hard in order to achieve this objective. Purpose therefore shapes and develops the goals and ambition of an individual. This article identifies three major steps of developing an individual’s purposes, the first step is identifying what a person is good at, the second step is how does the person utilize the gifts that he or she has, and finally the careers that the individual can pursue which aligns themselves with his goals/ purpose. In my own opinion, I disagree with these three processes of developing an individual’s purposes. The best method of knowing ones purpose in life, is to seek the direction at which his or her heart directs him to do. For instance, if it’s an individual’s desire to be a famous actor, then he or she should work hard by training, in order to acquire the acting skills. The person does not necessarily need the acting talent to pursue this purpose. In conclusion, to communicate these messages to the young adults, it is important to use the current technological advances. My background as a person who is interested in computers and skillful in its use will help me to communicate efficiently with the young adults through the internet. Therefore, the use of face book and twitter will be critical. These young adults can also get these messages from the print media, especially news papers. This is because they are always hunting for jobs, and newspapers provide an avenue where they can know on the existence of an opportunity. Most organizations place advertisements on the print media, since it can reach their expected audiences. Works Cited: Whelan, Christine. Generation WTF. Chicago: Templeton Press, 2011. Print.
