I am applying for a chance to pursue a Graduate Diploma Course in Law, because the subject of law continues to fascinate me, even after completing my first degree of B.A (Hons) in Legal Studies from Westminster University. I would like to grow my career in Law in order to accomplish my ambition as a fully qualified Lawyer or Barrister in the near future. Westminster University provided me with a friendly and conducive environment for my studies. This university is well equipped, with all the modern facilities necessary for legal studies. Furthermore, the lecturers are well qualified, experienced, and always willing to assist students with their individual academic problems. This university also has the reputation of excellence in the field of legal studies. Nonetheless, the international reputation of Westminster Law School attracts a variety of students, and has a conducive environment for studying at postgraduate level. University of Westminster also provides excellent working and recreational facilities for graduate students, thus demonstrates commitment to the graduate student body. Additionally, the Westminster law school is located at the centre of the West End of London, making it easily accessible by public transport. Moreover, every student has his or her own personal tutor that also provides career development. This makes the University of Westminster a centre for innovation and academic excellence. I am a highly determined individual. I have a wide range of legal skills, which I learnt in the program of B.A, Legal Studies. Therefore, I consider a Post Graduate Diploma Course in Law to be an advanced step. I have great interest in many subject areas. However, I am more drawn to a Post Graduate law degree in order to convert my B.A in Legal Studies to a law qualifying degree. The wide range of subjects that I have studied in my B.A course has helped me to become more open minded. This has also made me a reliable and outgoing person with great enthusiasm and common sense, and I believe that these are some of the qualities, which I will need in order to pursue law successfully. My interests, among other things include watching parliamentary legal debates, listening to music, reading and writing. I also enjoy classical movies, and meeting new people. During my time at Westminster, I developed the skills of time management and teamwork through interaction with fellow students. This also gave me an opportunity to share ideas with my colleagues, and this influenced my academics positively. Through my legal skill lessons, I developed a critical awareness of the nature of law, and can now differentiate the functions of legal institutions and nature of law within its social, political and economic contexts. This is important for me to progress in my career. I am highly competent in research planning and oral and written communication. I can plan and execute legal research by using a variety of research methods, including library and IT resources. I have improved my case reading and referencing, including citations and annotation in essay writing. Nonetheless, this is important to both my academics and profession. The ability to motivate myself is a key factor in my overall success, because I am committed to reaching my goals. To complement my academic interests I participate in a variety of extracurricular activities. I am involved in the law school debating society, where I am a member. The knowledge and experience I acquired has taught me how to use my own initiative in writing speeches and develop my skills in public speaking and diplomacy. I am also involved in the production of the school newspaper, as I enjoy writing articles about major issues in society, such as international social issues. With regard to hobbies, I enjoy organising events within my Christian cultural community, as I like the responsibility, as well as working alongside friends. I also enjoy spending my free time with family and friends whom I really value. Furthermore, I take part in a variety of sporting activities. I often organise a football team to participate in tournaments during some weekends. I am also a member of the local gym in Haringey, where I attend regularly in order to keep fit. I also enjoy reading novels, legal journals, as well as broadsheet newspapers to keep myself updated in the world events. Nonetheless, my hobbies have taught me the importance of communication, teamwork and self-reliance. Additionally, my work experience with Pinkerton Security Services has increased my enthusiasm for a career in law. I had the opportunity to exchange views with solicitors and legal advisers and sometimes office clerks, by observing critical procedures at every level. This has allowed me to have a grasp of what day-to-day activities are like for a law professional, thus increasing my awareness of what the law profession entails. Studying and having a part time job has made me realise the essence of responsibility. I have a sustained commitment to both my studies and job. This has boosted my confidence, as I have to relate with the different people I work with, as well as my teachers and fellow students at Westminster during my studies. Nonetheless, because of my experience and education, I am confident that I have the necessary skills to meet the challenges that further education will present me. My future aspiration is to graduate with a postgraduate qualification in law and to proceed to the Master’s level, where I plan to specialise in Conflict and Dispute resolution, which is part of commercial law. Legislation is dynamic, and this century seems to be a time of great expectations and innovations. Therefore, knowledge of legal skills is core to ensure a steady progress in my studies for the future. Therefore, by offering me a chance to pursue a postgraduate degree in Law, Westminster University will have supported me in my journey toward my dream profession in the field of law. Read More
