a. Describe the variation in education levels and health that you see across countries. What is the minimum life expectancy in 2009? The maximum? The average? What is the minimum level for the average years of education of the labor force in 2010? The maximum? The average? When you graduate from college, what percent of the labor force in your country will have as much education as you?The following is a summative statistics for life expectancy in 2009Column1Mean68.73888Standard Error0.774704Median72.01Mode72.64Standard Deviation10.

For the average, the descriptive statistics show that mean is 68.74.For the years of education Column1Mean7.850704Standard Error0.237608Median8.3Mode10.4Standard Deviation2.831428Sample Variance8.016985Kurtosis-0.77743Skewness-0.39315Range11.4Minimum1.2Maximum12.6Sum1114.8Count142The minimum level is 1.

2 and the maximum is 12.6. The average is 7.85b. Make a scatter plot of the relationship between the average years of education of the labor force in 1975 and per capita real income growth over the period 1975 to 2009. What relationship do you observe? Is this consistent with a model in which educatedlabor is a factor of production? Explain. As can be seen from the plot, the larger values in the horizontal axis are closely related to the larger values in the vertical axis. This indicates a positive association.

Further there is a linear association between the data as shown by the trend line. A t-test of over 0.5 also shows that there is strong positive correlation. The strong correlation and positive relationship supports the factor that education is a factor of labor production in any country. As the education becomes strong, so does the labor production increases. c. Make a scatter plot of the relationship between the average years of education of the labor force in 2010 and infant mortality. What theory could explain the relationship you see?

The scatter plot for infant mortality and education is as follows The plot shows that there is a strong negative the correlation between the data.As can be seen from the plot, the larger values in the horizontal axis are associated to the smaller values in the vertical axis. This indicates a negative association. Further there is a linear association between the data as shown by the trend line. A t-test of less than 0.5 also shows that there is strong negative correlation. The strong negative correlation and negative relationship supports the factor that education cannot be a factor influencing infant mortality.

Even though infant mortality may increase there will is little chance for the association of the occurrence to the level of education in any given country.d. Make a scatter plot of the relationship between average years of education of the labor force in 2010 and the domestic savings rate. What theory could explain the relationship you see?The following is the scatter plot for the gross domestic saving rate and average schooling levelFrom the scatter plot, the larger values in the horizontal axis are associated to the larger values in the vertical axis.

This indicates a positive association. Further there is a linear association between the data as shown by the trend line. A t-test of more than 0.5 also shows that there is strong negative correlation. The strong positive correlation and positive relationship supports the factor that gross domestic savings affects the level of education. A witnessed increased in domestic savings of any given country will insinuate higher level of education. e. Considering your answers to questions b-d above, can you think of ways in which education could affect growth even if educated labor is not a factor of productionAs shown from the scatter plots, there is strong association between levels of education and production.

First, the strong correlation between education and gross domestic savings shows that a country with higher levels of education is likely to have much savings, regardless of the labor force production. In turn, the gross domestic savings indicates the possibility of a country to take up projects and gear them towards growth and development. Further, the strong correlation and positive relationship supports the factor that education is a factor of labor production in any country. As the education becomes strong, so does the labor production increases.

Increase in labor production also insinuates the ability of a country to take up growth opportunities. f. Make a scatter plot of the relationship between life expectancy and income per capita in 2009. Explain the relationship you see. Does this provide evidence that greater health causes higher income? Explain. There is a positive relationship between life expectancy and income per capita. As one moves from left to right, the scatter shows an uphill patter. Further there is a linear association between the data as shown by the trend line.

A t-test of more than 0.5 also shows that there is strong positive correlation. The test shows that there is strong correlation between the data shows that there is a possibility for causal relationship between health care and income per capita. This is true since as the health care increase to a greater level, the citizen of a given country is likely to increase their job attendance. A country with no health is likely to drag in their income per capita since the number of those who are unfit, because of their health status, are many.
