Redevelopment of a small town and facilities Project framework Project Project management: redevelopment of a small town and facilities Project description The aim of the project is to develop a small town including its facilities. The redevelopment will aim at ensuring that the small town become self sustain in utilizing its resources and not depending on other towns in terms of technology and infrastructure. Begin Date: 1st June 2014 End date 30th May 2015 Project content The aim of the project is to redevelop the town and make it to have a brand new image Deliverables and criteria for close out Proper infrastructure, proper technological distribution, development of distribution channels for raw materials, and other required goods. Project limits and exclusions Time and availability of funds will be the limiting factors Milestones: Date Key deliverables 01/06/2014- 30/06/2014 Formulation of a plan that will be utilized over the one year of redevelopment of the town. That will ensure that all factors are put into consideration. 01/07/2014- 31/07/2014 Formulation of a budget. The budget will ensure that there are enough funds for taking up the task of redevelopment. 01/08/2014-31/08/2014 Seeking of donors. The management of the small will look for donors who will help in the funding of the project. The donations should come from both the government and private businesses. 01/09/2014-30/09/2014 Floating of tenders. Tenders should be floated for the different activities that are intended to take place. Floating of the tenders will ensure that the town acquires the best experts at the lowest cost and best terms. After the bidding of the tenders, there should be vetting of the companies placing the tenders and that will lead to the awarding of the tenders to the best-suited company. 01/10/2014-28/02/2015 The companies that have been awarded the tenders should start working. The duration will ensure that there is a proper infrastructure, security system, up to date technological devises, and a proper supply chain system. 01/03/2015-30/04/2015 Carry out of an advertising campaign that is aimed at attracting investors. The investors will be asked to invest in the town by coming up with businesses that will lead to the development of the town. The advert will be followed by vetting of the investors to ensure that they are qualified, they have the required funds to invest in the town, and that they are willing to comply with the set rules of the town. 01/31/2015-30/05/2015 Evaluation of the progress of the project. Project overview In the current times, most towns are striving to be self sufficient in all its activities. That is done in an attempt to ensure that the town gains revenue from the tax gained from the local businesses. The residents of a town also prefer getting all their requirements in one area as opposed to shopping for different items in different towns. Because of that, most towns are aiming at developing their towns in a manner that will ensure that they are self-sufficient and a manner that will attract investors in the town. That will ensure that local residents will be more comfortable and the town will earn more revenue from its activities. That will enable the town to properly remunerate its staff and carry out other development projects. The project is about redeveloping a small town and its available facilities. The project will aim at ensuring that the infrastructure of the town is up to the required standards. That ensures that the transport system in the town will not hold back any possible investments. The project also aims at improving the technological level of the town. Technology will ensure efficiency of operations in the town. In that case, technological advancement is a necessity in the advancement of the town’s infrastructure. Since the project is on redevelopment of the town, it will take one year after which the rest of the developments will be left to the investors to carry out the rest of the developments. Statement of scope for the project Project objectives The project on town redevelopment has a number of objectives. The objectives include the following; 1. To set up a technologically recognized town. The small town will be developed in a way that all the systems depend on technology. That will ensure that there is cost cutting those results from the use of technology. 2. To build a proper infrastructure system. The projects aim at ensuring that the town is served by a modern infrastructure system. The system will ensure that the exchange of goods and services is easy and convenient. That will also ensure that costs of moving goods is reduced and the companies in the town will be able to manage the costs. 3. To build the town to become a commercial zone. The redevelopment of the town will attract investors. That will ensure that people in the town earn employment opportunities from the local businesses and that will boost the economy of the town and the standard of living of the people found in the town. Deliverables In order to accomplish the set objectives, there has to be proper coordination of the various activities that are supposed to take place before the project becomes successful. The management of the town must ensure that they get donors who will be able to properly and conveniently make donations that will ensure that the objectives of the project are gained. That means that there has to be negotiations made with the donors. The negotiations will ensure that the town gets donors who are willing to see through the project. The management of the town should also ensure that they are able to get the best deals from the contractors. The contractor with the best deal should be awarded the contract. The terms will imply the convenience of working in the town in terms of compliance with the set rules on pollution and the payment period. The repayment period asked by the contractor should be convenient to the town’s management. The other deliverable is on the seeking of investors. The people or companies that are willing to invest in the town should be credible institutions that are interested in the well being of the town and the accomplishment of the long run good of the town which is to come up with a self sustained small town. Milestones The project will take place over a period of one year. After the one year, the other objectives of the town will be achieved by the work of the investors. The aim of the project is to come up with a concrete foundation that will enable the town to become self sustained. The employees who will take part in the project will be fully competent to ensure that they give the best output that will make the objectives of the project feasible. Limits and exclusions The success of the project will be limited on the availability of funds. The funds from the donors will be the beginning of the success of the project. After the availability of the funds, the other limitation will be subject to the working of the employees. That means that the involved companies should ensure that the employees are properly motivated so that they can work efficiently. That means that there should be no conflicts among the employees and that will increase the level of efficiency of the employees. The working hours should be properly stated to ensure that the project moves according to the set time duration without any delays (Whitten, N. 2005). Constraints and Priorities Scope The fist constraint is on the scope of the project. This is because the different projects activities are dependent on each other. That means that the success of a project is subject to the success of the previous activity. That means that the project managers should ensure that all activities in the project are successful so as to ensure that the entire project is successful. Time The project has been set on a one-year’s duration. That means that time is a limiting factor for the project. The contractors do not have luxury of time and all the set activities have to be carried out within the stipulated time period without any delays (Wood, et al 2005). The completion of the various activities before the set time is the best option because the other activities can take place without any hurry. Costs The cost of the various activities is also a limiting factor. This is because the set budget is subject of the current prices. That means that in case of any inflationary effects, the budget will increase and that may lead to the fall of the project. The costs should also be observed because the success of the project is subject of the availability of the funds from the donors. That means that the availability of funds will ensure the success of the project. Quality Quality of the work done by the contractors will determine the demand from the investors. The investors are the people who will bring money to the town. Therefore, the quality of work done should be perfect so as to attract a large number of investors. Most investors are usually after towns that have a potential of growth and they have good facilities that will help in the running of their activities. That means that the contractors should be professionals who should ensure quality of work done. Priorities of the project The priorities of the project are the activities that the project cannot become successful without their accomplishment. One of the priorities includes the availability of the funds. The project is very dependent on the availability of funds from the donors. That means that the project managers should make negotiations with the donors that will make them confident about the project and that will ensure that the project becomes successful. The other priority in the project is the utilization of time. Time is a factor that should be perfectly utilized to avoid any delays. The other priority is the quality of work done. The given priorities should be perfectly coordinated to ensure the success of the project. Performance measurement evaluation The project managers should ensure that evaluation of the project’s progress is carried out periodically (Fishman 1997).That will ensure that there is no overload of work that has not been carried out at the end of the contract. At the end of the project, the periodical evaluations should be compiled and that will yield to the final result of the evaluation. The evaluation should cater for factors such as the way the activities are coordinated and the quality of work done by the different contractors. The project manager should evaluate the various activities and make a comment on each of the projects. The evaluation will ensure that all the activities are properly executed and implemented. The evaluation should ensure that the contractors make a follow up on the various activities to ensure that all things are working perfectly. Project closure The closure of the project will be when the investors have been allocated with their various portions. That will happen when the project is finally handed to the investors from the project managers.
