The paper “Effect of Organisational Leadership on the Overall Performance of British American Tobacco” is a brilliant example of a management research paper. The objective of the study was to establish the effect of leadership behaviors on the performance of an organization. The primary objective was to find out the types and concepts of leadership behaviors and then investigate the impact of such behavior on the organizational performance using BAT as the case company. Different leadership behaviors and theories were discussed in the research report.

The qualitative research method was used and encoding is done to attach a quantitative element in the research findings. The questionnaires were sent to the employees and they were given sufficient time to answer the questions. There were 40 respondents randomly selected from all the departments of the company.The findings of the research indicated that there is a strong effect of leadership behaviors on the performance of an organization. The behavior of the top management with the employees was seen as one of the primary reasons why the company is so successful.

Lastly, it was discovered that leadership behaviors are very important factors in the growth of companies.1. Introduction1.1 Company Background British American Tobacco came into being in 1902 as a result of a joint venture between the American Tobacco Company and an imperial tobacco company. BAT is a multinational company with its headquarters in London operating in around 180 markets all over the world.BAT is listed as the second-largest tobacco company in the London stock market after Phillip Morris Tobacco Company (bat.com 2011).The company boasts of 200 brands in its portfolio and 46 cigarette factories processing in 39 countries.

Out of the 180 markets, the firm has obtained market leadership in more than 50 of them. In addition, British American Tobacco has significantly contributed to reducing unemployment, globally by having a workforce comprising more than 55000 employees.Although the products the firm sells pose health risks to the users, the company is confident that their products have never been termed as illegal, and in any case, they exist to meet the needs of about one billion adults who make a choice of smoking.

The company’s vision is to attain market leadership by continuously producing its products responsibly.
