REFLECTION PAPER By Professor Class University City Date of submission Persona Reflection Paper Globally, children are vulnerable to different forms of exploitation including those sexually related. Other forms of exploitation involve domestic violence, physical abuses by the friends and families, and early employment. According to the research conducted by Barnardo Foundation, show that approximately 3.5 million children in the UK live in party. These problems experienced by the children triggered us to organize fundraising activities to assist in securing the future of the children. To make the preparation more effective and eye-catching, the project management teams brought together students with different skills including leadership, communication, presentation, and marketing. Moreover, attracting people to contribute to the event requires maintenance of quality services since fundraising activities was organized in form of competition with students in other groups as well (El-Meligi, 2012, 251). We entitled the event as Eat & Help with an objective of raising the funds to assist the vulnerable children in dare need. Furthermore, the project also aimed at promoting teamwork among the students through offering quality cuisines. It was important that the food become tasty to attract more clients. Although organizing the event was not that easy, it was fruitful as I managed to learn more about the important of fostering effective and reliable teamwork. Besides, the project assisted me in understanding the benefits associated with sharing ideas as a means of enhancing my professional skills. The major factor affecting most of the fundraising activities for charity organization is the technique used in communicating the event and challenges associated with convincing people that their sacrifices would for noble causes. Working for charity organization has always been my passion; therefore, the fundraising event gave me the opportunity to acquire more experience. Considering the fact that the event took place within the learning institution, preparing Asian foods in the menu helped to attract most students as they like eating food stuffs they are familiar with and delicious. Majorly, the event brought together students from India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh making marketing for the project easier. My role was quite delicate since it involved giving suggestions on which the group members were to brainstorm. Together with other two members, we suggested the ideas while the other for four members helped in upgrading the main ideas that wound ensure the success of the project. In addition, the entire process of collaboration required collaborative, active, enthusiastic, and charismatic group members, which Simon demonstrated throughout the entire process. Although some members were less corporative at the initial stages of the project to raise the funds, they later showed commitment since majority rule worked in our group. However, all the activities involving preparations were carried out in moderation to ensure involvement of all members. To enhance our level of communication among potential clients, and us the group made use of most social media platforms considering the number of subscribers using them within the institutions. From my view, my contribution to the project was immense. With the other, I contributed in generating ideas, planning, and actively supporting the organized activities. Since the project targeted more than just the students but also teachers and the surrounding Asians, it was significant to develop and coin better communication skills to help people know how much their contribution was important. Although most students were aware of the project, there was need to have detailed analysis on the method used in approaching the teachers as they also fell within our marketing niche. Besides, to assist us reach more students and teachers, our group set aside three days of applying our marketing strategy to meet these clients, create awareness, prepare contingency plans, and gathering different types of food that would help meet the demands of our target group (Sears, 2007, 101). Delegation of duties among the group members was carried out without any feuds or disagreements since we had similar objectives. Division of the responsibilities assisted us in ensuring full engagement of each group member, which reflected positive attributes of working together. In addition, I applied my research and analytical skills to determine the types of foods that most students like and factors that are likely to compromise the planned activities. We had laxities and shortfalls associated with time management since the entire process brought together people with different ideas and understanding on charitable works. Therefore, to avoid such problems in the future, there was need to enhance our time management skills. Personally, I found working in a group quite difficult considering the number of challenges involved. However, the success of the group depended on our level of corporation so I had to adjust some skills using some of the experiences that I acquired. It has always been my passion working for charity organization; hence, the chance to raise the funds for the children offered me a great opportunity. Working together with other colleagues offered me an opportunity to develop my leadership skills and ability to make quality and effective decisions within a short time. Moreover, I have to develop time management skills to ensure that I always complete all the delegated roles on time. There were several conflicts associated with different interest as each person wanted to be the group leader. Leadership, however, entails patience and ability to listen to the view of the others. Besides, problems always arise when none of the members is willing to step down and allow one-person take the responsibility of leadership. From the group, we experienced such challenges from the beginning but later we decided divide responsibilities, which made it easier to manage the group and achieve our objective with the stipulated period. These conflicts in most cases contribute to time wastage and development of poor strategies. To increase our scope of operation, we had to involve the sponsors of the event in which, in this case, was Barnardo Foundation. Proper planning was crucial to achieve the intended objectives. Nevertheless, we had a contingency plan that if our activities overrun the budgets, then we had to contribute as team members to supplement the deficit. We targeted the sales from the food to range between £400 -£540. However, most of our group members had no background in financial management making it difficult for the group members to estimate whether we had reach the target or not. People makes errors and leaving financial responsibilities to a member of the group reflect how much there was need to have financial management skills (Grey & Willmott, 2005, 152). This situation was quite a challenge and an opportunity for me to develop my skills in managing finances. In the future, I would wish to undertake the project personally without any barriers associated financial management and budgeting skills. Group works enhance confidence among the members. Initially, I though group work involved identifying one person among the members to undertake all the activities and present for the others who in turn discuss the emerging issues. On the contrary, I noticed that group work improve one’s ability to communicate and develop confidence in what he or she is doing. To approach a students or teachers, there is need to maintain eye contact especially while explaining to them the need to contribute in the event. However, it is important to note that not all the students were happy with the event considering the fact that they were not aware on how much such nobble initiative would positively influence the lives of poor children. Since we considered such circumstances, we had to develop strategies that would help enhance our communication skills and ability to convince them. Thus, these activities require confidence and ability to listen to the views of the targeted clients. Barnardo Foundation is one of the leading charitable organization in the United Kingdom; therefore, working with such an organization is already an opportunity of developing skills that would enable me acquire a competitive advantage within the competitive industry. With a country endowed by challenges associated child labour and sexual violence, I believe that my experience within the organization would assist most charitable organization focusing on helping such people. Personally, my strengths include creative, imaginative, and problem-solver. Fundraising requires a lot of creativity ranging from designing activities theme and slogans that would attract more of our targeted customers. From my role of generating the desired ideas, imaginative trait was crucial to allow the group explores all the issues associated fundraising activities. Moreover, since the activities involved carrying out responsibilities by more than one person, several problems are likely to emerge. However, with problem solving skills, I believe that my services greatly assisted the group. Besides, employers are looking for confident, quick decision makers, and committed employees. I believe that with professional knowledge and skills acquired during the fundraising activities would place me in a better competitive position within the market where people are desperately searching for jobs. Although the fundamental issues, in this case, is not to acquire a better job, it means giving back to the society what it deserves they assisting the needy children realize their dreams.
