Eighteen Year Olds and Military Service Introduction Military service is hard; no it is even harder than you can think of! But I love it for one reason or the other. To start with, it is a fact that the world of today wants youngsters to be recruited within the armed forces. For any nation, this is a point of make or break and having said that, recruitment and selection within the military service serves in the best possible manner keeping in mind what it eventually does for the country and its natives. There is a lot of encouragement for the youngsters to join the military service since it guarantees them a secure future as well as a life full of adventures, thrills and dignity nonetheless. Persuasion for 18 Year Olds to get Recruited in Military Service There is a dire need to understand that the 18 year olds should be required to serve within the military as it fast tracks their growth levels and channels their energies in the right direction. Thus one has to keep in mind that this builds their personality at a greater speed as compared to other avenues of life which they could adopt at a later stage. If they come in the military service, they would account for their consistent growth and that too at a quick pace, when one compares the same with any other field of life or profession for that matter. There have been a number of individuals who have had exceptional talents, both in the field of sports as well as a number of other arenas of life but here we will focus on the role of leaders within the military and that too on very strategic positions. These people have ascended on the ladder of success with sheer hard work and commitment, which in its essence, is the key to attain and achieve success and fame. There have been great leaders amongst the military who can be bracketed alongside the very best. There must be a need to understand the exact challenges they had to go through before the world understood their might and leadership ways were appreciated all round. It is a common phenomenon that all such people started off right from a very young age and thus made it big within the military service since they knew that military is the eventual destination that they want to reach upon and once they are there, they need to make the most of the opportunity. Keeping Away the Negative Aspects On this note, there should be efforts and attempts to change the negative thinking of certain individuals within one’s community to think differently when it comes to sending the young ones and teenagers within the ranks of military service. There should be attempts to change their thinking mindset and give them food for thought with reasoning so that they could understand for their own good what the merits and demerits of this support actually means for one and all, both within the short term perspectives as well as in the long run scenario. The counter arguments for the whole cause need to be backed up by logic and reasoning more than anything else and positives for the nation must be backed up with supporting facts and solid points. The competencies that need to be there in a young man who wants to serve in the military include his strategic vision and thinking regimes that entail his presence of mind, use of information and knowledge thus achieved/attained in a tactful manner, understand the proper usage of his strategic goals and tactical actions and lastly pinpoint the areas of strength within his army and cover the loopholes that are present amongst the army and are labeled as the points of weakness and where the opposing armies can hit upon – the constant threats that need to be warded off. They need to foresee what is going to happen and this achieves more importance in the light of a war scene where strategic (long term) and tactical (short term) actions rule the roost. Moreover the manner in which these decisions are taken and carried out by the peers within the army in the first place requires intelligence on the part of the young servant of military who can set himself apart from his army and be a focused and tactful person gaining respect from all quarters. Dignity is something that has to be earned over time and it is only possible when the young man understands the chain of command that is present in the military ranks. He must pinpoint the problems that might seem to arise at some point in time and must not let any thing unsettle the plans of his regiment commander whatsoever. A Chance to Serve One’s Nation Continuing with the same theme, there is all the more reason why the 18 year olds must get recruited within the army and they should think ahead of serving their respective nations and unifying the people which are inhabited within it. They must understand that their top most priority lies with their motherland and their energies and spirits should be in line with the very same. My ideology with the topic at hand suggests that it has been an eye opener for me in many different ways since I have come to understand life in a wholly different manner which did not happen in the years that passed by, before I joined army. Opposite Viewpoint An opposite viewpoint is also apparent in this discussion where the talk is to recruit 18 year olds within the military service. This group is of the view that young ones must be given freedom to choose whatsoever they like for their own selves and it is up to them to decide what course of action they would undertake in the years to come. This is also a decisive point that needs much attention from relevant quarters and efforts need to be undertaken to take into view both the perspectives before moving any further. However all the stances must be weighed properly in nice stead so as to have a proper balance between the two opinions before a decision is made on the lives of the 18 year olds as to whether they should or should not join the military service. Real Life Perspective From my personal point of view, I have understood the value of life and have taken giant strides as far as my personality building is concerned. There are moments where I could have just given up all of a sudden had I not been in the army but since I am in the military service at the present, I have known that perseverance is the key to solve a lot of issues and there needs to be a mix of tact and intelligence to solve just about any problem that comes in my way. All said and done, it should be mandatory for all 18 year olds to serve within the military for the better interests of their own personalities as well as the country that they live in. Thus, I believe that the position I have taken up in my life is indeed the correct one, which will change the course of my life even further and in the right direction in the times to come.
