I have, in the past year and a half, also found the time for doing drawing and painting and fine arts.
As a child, growing up in Korea, I have spent quite a bit of time with my cousin, who was then studying architecture. I used to be fascinated with the portfolios he used to create-the drawings and plans made by him. (My cousin now works in an architect's firm.) I have been impressed with the thought of being able to do something as creative as designing buildings. To think that some day, people can live and work and wonder at buildings and spaces created by me is an exciting thought!
I am aware that being a good architect requires a combination of different skills as well as creativity. Mathematical and engineering skills, a thorough knowledge of safety norms, keeping up-to date with the latest methods and materials used in construction technology, readiness to experiment with locally available materials, a knowledge of local customs and living habits to ensure that spaces that I create suit the people who occupy them, and a sense of what is beautiful-all these are necessary to create a building that really lasts.
Living in Upstate New York for more than a year now, I enjoy visiting Manhattan whenever I can, to gaze at its impressive skyline. I consider myself fortunate to be able to live in this city which has the largest number of buildings of over 200 ms in height. ...
