First and and number June Transformers To begin with, the movie “Transformers” has been an all time favorite to millions of audience and has set records leaving the box office awed and has won the acclaim of critics. It was just not the movie which has left the audience enthralled, but also the comic books which swept many records. Though both the cinema and comic books have won the hearts of millions, it was the cinema indeed that has had a stronger impact on audience and better success. But this never renders the comic books inferior, because despite the effect of cinema impact, the comic books are still hot cakes when it comes to sales.

The major differences that one can identify in the cinema and the comic book medium would be the effects and the attention they grab. It can be further noticed that though the comic lacks some elements that a cinema typically possesses, it succeeded winning over the hearts of many readers but however there are some major differences and some interesting aspects that have to be attributed to the cinema medium. The comic medium at some point fails to carry the emotions as much as a cinema does, since with reading one restricts himself to his scope of imagination.

This scope has been amplified with all the technical effects comprising the sound, music, modulations of speech and adding a sense of our presence, making cinema a more interactive medium. Ang Lee’s “The Hulk” has seen great success both as comic and cinema and he had combined both these media with great art and articulate understanding of the story. The comic, as one reads draws close attention and maintains a breath taking suspense throughout the book and this in fact shows up in the cinema as well, with impeccable narration and Ang Lee ensured that every character that he portrayed in the cinema was of no less awe that he depicted in the comic.

The picture below shows the emotions of “The Hulk”, and these emotions were lacked by “Transformers”, since they had less to express through emotions, which has been a drawback for the comic of “Transformers”. ("Incredible-Hulk") This could have been only possible with immense care over every character and maintaining all the essentially important elements that is expected of a character of his story. The vision of a reader of the comic “The Hulk” has been carried intact in the movie as well.

It is no wonder a tough job, to decide which among the comics “Transformers” and “The Hulk” is a better one and which is not. In the comics, I personally however feel that it was “The Hulk” that has reached the readers, than the “Transformers”. “The Hulk” also ranks better than “Transformers” in the sales. Incredible Hulk has been ranked 33 and “Transformers Micromasters” has been ranked 70 quantitatively and the pattern of ranks has also been similar in the retail ranking (“Top 300 comics”).

As the numbers explain, it was “The Hulk”, that has seen more success as a comic than Transformers. But if each of them were to be considered individually, they make great comics. And if “The Hulk” and “Transformers” are to be compared as movies and be gauged on their success rate then it would be undoubtedly Transformers that heads the race. “The Hulk” with a budget of 150 million dollars had a total domestic gross of $134,806,913 in 2008("Box Office Mojo") and on the other hand “Transformers 2” with a production budget of 200 million dollars had a total domestic gross of $402,111,870,and this explains the success of the film “Transformers”.
