First, pressure ulcers (PRUs) are rather common medical conditions that have affected the patients for ages with ever increasing morbidity and mortality rates. For these reasons, pressure ulcers and their effects have prompted nurses to work tirelessly to address their detection, prevention, treatment and management (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence, 2013). Most importantly, that PRUs have metamorphosed into a national healthcare issue underscores the importance of its prevention to the nursing. The other reason this topic was chosen for this paper is that despite the tremendous efforts and strides made in other fields such as medicine, nursing care, surgery, and self-care education, pressure ulcers remain among the chief causes of morbidity and mortality for different types of illnesses (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence, 2013). The situation is particularly dire for people with prolonged immobility, weakened sensation and advanced age.
